Description

PERCOLATOR CAP Filed Feb. 18, 1929 INVENTOR,
A TTORNEY.
Patented July 23, 1929.
UNITED STATES Fits;
ALBERT B. GARDELLA, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
PERCOLA'IOR CAP.
Application filed. February 18, 1929.
This invention relates to fastening means of the glass top of a percolator cover.
An object of the invention is to provide an improvement in the construction of a glass top adapted to be attached to a concentric supporting member or cover, so that said glass top may be securely fastened to said cover and prevent its falling out.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent when taken in connection with the following detailed description and accom panying drawings, wherein Fig. 1 is a partly broken side view of a percolator cap constructed in accordance with this invention, the cover not being a part of the invention is shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a side View of the metallic insert or clip before being inserted in the cap. Fig. 3 is an edge View of the same.
In the drawings wherein like numerals indicate similar parts, 1 indicates the percolator top in position in the percolator cover 2, with a bead 3 of the top or cap 1 resting upon a coacting surface 4: of the cover 2. Two or more metallic inserts or clips 5 have an intermediate portion 6 thereof embedded in the glass, the inwardly projecting portion 7 of said insert 5 may conveniently be placed in contact with the inner surface 8 of the percolator cap 1. The outwardly projecting portion 9 of said insert 5 lies against and parallel to the outer surface 10 of the cap 1 during the assembly of the cap 1 within the cover 2. It is then bent up into the locking position shown at 11 in Fig. 1 which prevents Serial No. 340,817.
the withdrawal of the cap l'past the inwardly projecting flange of the cover which carries the before mentioned coacting surface 4.
It will be further seen that said outwardly projecting portion 9 when in the position indicated by the numeral 11 has the tip 12 thereof in contact with the inner side of the cover 2 thereby preventing relative axial movement between the cap 1 and the cover 2.
It will of course be understood that any convenient method may be employed to embed the inserts 5 in the glass top 1, such as inserting it through a cored hole in said glass top 1, (in which case either extremity of the insert 5 would be aligned with the beforementioned intermediate portion 6 during such insertion) or the insert 5 may be molded into the glass in the process of its manufacture.
I claim:
1; A percolator cap provided with a metallic clip, one end of which is embedded in the cap and thereby secured thereto, and the other end adapted to be bent to engage the under side of the percolator cover, to retain the cap in place.
2. A percolator cap provided with a metallic clip extending through a slot in the lower edge of the cap, the inner end'of said. clip being bent to engage opposite sides of the lower rim of said cap and the outer end of said clip being bent to engage the under side of the percolator cover.
In testimony whereof, I do affix my signature.
ALBERT B. GARDELLA.
