rlihis invention has for its object to provide a lighting xture oi the type used on the side walls ot bathrooms, kitchens, halls and the like, wl'ierein'a shell-like opal glass shield or semi-globular shade surrounds the horizontal incandescent lamp, and relates to a. novel holder' for such shield or shade uermitt-ing it to be quickly and easily attached or detached without requiring the usual threaded means.

Another object oi" the invention is to provide such a holder which will lirmly and securely support the shield or shade against accidental disengagement.

`With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the lighting .fixture as herein claimed and all equivalents.

ln these drawings, indicates a base or bracket which may be suitably mounted on a side wall and terminates in a liront vertical flange 11, within which is clamped a lalnp socket 12 ot the type known as a. sign receptacle. The two members ot this socket are connected together by a threaded engage nient, which enables them to clamp the l'lange 1l betweenv them. Also clamp-ed in this inanner is a ring,` 1S, preferably of spring;` sheet nletal, such as bronze, provided at its upper edge with a forwardly extending curved spring lip 14 bent upwardly to torni a curved hook conforming to the outline oil the collar member of the sign receptacle 1Q and bearingl thereon. rit its lower edge the ring.;v 13 provided with a forwardly extending curved spring` lip 15 also conforming to the outline of the collar member ot the sign receptacle 12 and bearing` thereon.

order to mount the .shade on its support, it is inclined so as to tirst engage its neck portion 18 with the hook and then, by swinging' it on said hook, the lower part o1 the neck portion is brought into bearing` against the vieldine' spring-lip 15, the spring action oit which serves to draw the shade into a 'firm seating' relation with the l'lange at the end of the base l0, where it is held :firmly against vibration or turning. To detach. the shade it is only necessary to reverse this action by lifting it out of engagement with the sprin lip 5 and then. removing' it lirorn the hook member. Thus the shade is attached and removed without the necessity for turning' screw-threaded parts as heretoiiorc-i and, byimerely exerting gentle pressure on the shade itself, reducing' the danger of breakingt,T the shade and avoid ing, the necessity :tor removable parts that may be injured when removed and unsuitable tor further use. The shade support of this invent-ion permits of the shade being turned to throw the light as desire-d and securely holds it in any position as the ring` remains iixed and the hoek let .supports the weight while the lip 15 prevents disengagement from the hook.

lf it is desired to permanently attach the ring` 13 to the base 10, the edges ot the iane'e around the central opening1 may be bent out wardly through the ring); 13, in the manner shown in .Fi 2, and pressed tliereagainst as at 19, or the hook and bearing;l lip may iiorm a permanent part oit the base in any other manner.

While the hook and tongue may be su'l'liciently heavy to be self-sustaining, it is possible to make them oi light material inasmuch as they are rernforced against collapse by their fittingv against the collar member oit the sign receptacle lamp socket 12.

Though the invention is particularly adapted to lighting .fixtures of the wall bracket type, it is obvious that it may be used with ceiling lighting fixtures.

What l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A wall bracket ligl'itinfg; lixture comprising a base, a sign receptacle lamp socket litting in an opening oit the base and engaging` the ed ge of the openingbetween the clamping members ot the lamp socket, a` metal ring also received between the clamping members of the lamp socket and having,` the edge of the base passed through it and turned over thereon to permanently connect it with the base, said ring provided with a forwardly projecting upwardly bent hook and provided with a forwardly projecting spring,` lip opposite the hook, and zt shade havinga reduced neck portion engaged on the hook and having the spring lip bearing thereon.

2. A wall bracket lighting fixture comprising a base, a sign receptacle lamp socket iitting in an opening of the base and engaging the edge of the opening` between the clamping ALEXANDER KIsUTI-IE'RLAND.
