EDGE ROLL FOR APPLICATION TO FURNITURE Filed July 16, 192'? uniu lkl I 5.

HENRY HILDEBRAND, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
EDGE ROLL FOR APPLICATION TO FURNITURE.
Application filed July 16, 1927. Serial No. 206,226.
This invention relates to edge rolls for upholstered furniture, such as chairs, lounges and the like. In furniture of this character there is usually mounted within the wooden frame suitable springs, the frame and springs being covered with any suitable material, enclosing hair or other yielding cushioning material placed over the springs.
By means of the edge roll provided by the present invention, the projecting edges of the spring structure, whether at the seat, the arm or the back, may be provided with a soft and yielding rounded edge cushion, made in strips and out in lengths according to the edge to be protected, the strip being sewed to the spring structure or to the covering therefor, or being tacked to the wooden frame, or the back, or the arm where this is desired.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure l is a view in front elevation, part-.
ly in section of an upholstered chair, showing the application of the invention;
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line Figure l;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the improved edge roll; a
Figure 4; is a sectional view on the line l4, Figure 1;
Figure 5 is a sectional view on the line 55, Figure 1. I
Referring to Figure 3, it will be seen that the edge roll comprises a filler A, enclosed within a fabric casing 2, forming a body which has a flat lower wall a, a rounded front portion 7), the latter merging into a downwardly inclined wall 0. The body also is formed with a short substantially vertical section (if.
Referring to Figure 1, it will be seen that in applying the device to the sprin base of the chair, which receives the upholstered cushion, the base a is so placed upon the spring cover near the front edge thereof that the vertical section (1 lies in register with the front edge of the spring cover. Stitches f may then be employed to hold the device in position.
An edge roll of a somewhat less size may be employed for the back and arms of chairs, or the like. As illustrated in Figure 4, the roll may extend around the outer margin of a chair or lounge back and it may be tacked in place upon the Wooden frame, or secured by stitches to the springs, if springs are employed.
In Figure 5, I have illustrated the edge roll applied to the arm and arm frame of the chair in such manner that the edges are rounded and made soft and yielding.
It will be understood that when my edge roll is secured in place it will be covered by the upholstery materialjused to finish the piece of furniture.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows An edge roll for furniture comprising a yielding material in strip form, having a horizontal base terminating in ashort front vertical wall projecting upwardly therefrom, a rounded front portion projecting forwardly of said wall and above the latter, and a top wall projected from said front portion and extending downwardl to the base, substantially shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
HENRY HILDEBRAND.
