NIGHT LAMP.
Application filed January 27, 1928. Serial No. 249,832.
This invention relates to lamps of the charactor intended primarily for use in bedrooms and sick rooms, and has for its object the pro vision. of sucha lamp which is ornamental and attractive in appearance, adapted to produce a mellow or subdued glow in the room, and is capable of use to vaporize liquids of a me dicinhl or scent giving character.
The invention fully described in the following specification and one embodiment thereof illustrated in the accomp anying draw- 1 desi 'nates a frame comprising, in the present instance, a
bottom cross-piece 2 and the two uprights 3, 3 fixedly rising from the ends of said crosspiece. The uprights 3 are of U or channel form in cross-section with their channels opening toward each other to permit a plate 4 to be slidingly mounted therein. The upper ends of the standards are rolled outwardly for ornamental effect. The frame 1 being, open at its upper end, the plate 1 may be slldmgly lowered into or removed therefrom.
The plate 4; is preferably of colored or translucent glass to permit rays of light passing; therethrough to be subdued or mellowed, and is also preferably decorated to give it an attractive and ornamental appearance.
A plat-e 5, preferably of sheet metal, is socured at its lower ed go to the front side of the cross-piece 2, being, in the present instance, substantially coextensive with the width of the space between the two uprights 3 an d eX- tending a short distance above the cross-piece in front of the plate 4t and carrying at its upper end a frame 6 for holding a medallion 7 or other ornamental member of translucent upper portion of the plate 5 of ornamental form to lend to the attractiveness of thedevice.
The frame 1 is provided at each lower corner' thereof with a bowed support or double leg; member 8, and such corner portions are embraced by reinforcing corner pieces 9.
A bracket 10 is disposed at the rear side of the cross-piece 2 and has upturned ears 11 at its forward edge secured to the cross-piece by rivets 12. y The bracket 10 is of ring form to permit the mounting of an electric socket base 13 therein, the socket of which extends upwardly to receive the electric light bulhli, which latter is disposedat therear ofthe lower portion of the plate a and medallion 7.
.The lower portion of the base 13 is enclosed by a casing 15, having a rearwardly extendin opening therein through which the loads 16 for the base extend.
An opaque casing 17 of tubular form, in the present instance, encloses the lamp 14 and fits at its lower end down around the base 13. This casing has an opening 18 in its front side in advance of the lamp 14. The upper end of the casing 17 has a cup 19 removably suspended therein for receiving a perfume, medicine or other liquid to be vaporized. The upper end of the cup is closed by a removable cover 20 having openings therein through which the vapor arising from the liquid may.
escape. The pull-chain 21 for the socket base switch extends forwardly from the base 13 through a guide eyelet 22 projecting forwardly through the cross-piece 2.
It is apparent that I have provided. a night lamp which is exceedingly attractive in appearance and which has the lamp so mounted and disposed with respect to the plate a that it is entirely hid from view by such plate, and the rays from the lamp are permitted to pass in a subdued manner through the plate and ornamental parts associated therewith. Should either the plate 4; or medallion memher 7 be broken or for any other reason desired to be replaced, this can be easily and quickly done. as is apparent.
I wish it understood that my invention is not limited to any specific construction, arrangementor form of the parts, as it is capable of numerous modifications and changes without departing from the spirit of the claims. 1
Having; thus described my invention, what ..1nay p'ass,.a bracket projecting rearwardly from the frame and secured to its lower por. tion in supportlng relation thereto, legs supporting the bracket, and light-creating means carried by the bracket and disposed at the rear of said members.
2. In a night lamp, a frame including a base and an upright portion, a translucent member carried by the upright portion of the frame,
' an electric lamp socket carried by the base at the rear side thereof, a lamp in said socket disposed at the rear of said member, an opaque casingmember enclosing said lamp and spaced from said. upright portion and having an opening at its frontside between said lamp and member.
f 3, In a night'lamp,-a frame, a translucent member carr ed by the frame, an electric lamp I socket carriedby the frame at the rear side thereof, a lamp in said socket disposed at the 'rearof said member, an opaque casing member enclosing said lamp and having an open- "ing at its front side between said lamp and member, a liquid receptacle mounted in the top of the casing and a cover over said receptacle and having openings thereln. 1
' 4:. In a night lam a frame, a translucent member carried by t 1e frame, a smaller frame 1 carried by the first frame in advance of said translucent member, a second translucent member carried by the smaller frame, and
means at the rear of said translucent members for causing a light to be directed therethrough.
5. In a night lamp, a frame having a crosspiece at its lower end and uprights rising from the opposite ends of said cross-pim'e, a translucent plate removably carried by said f 'anie between said uprights, a rigid member rising from the cross-piece in advance of the plate and having a med allion-carrying frame, a translucent medallion carried by said second frame in advance of a portion of said plate, and means carried by the first frame and disposed at the rear of said plate and medallion to direct light therethrough.
6. Ina night lamp, a frame 0 t U-form with its leg portions channeled to form guideways. legs supporting said frame, a translmrent plate removably carried by the frame with its side edges slidingly mounted in said guide- Ways, a bracket carried by the base of the frame and projecting rearwardly therefrom, and an electrical light emitting means carried by said bracket at the rear of said plate.
7. In a portable night lamp, a base, an opaque casing supported by the base, a lamp mounted within said casing, said casing having an opening in its front side only through which the light may shine, and a translucent member supported by the base in front of said casing and spaced therefrom, said translucent member extending far enough laterally so that no direct rays from the lamp may pass the same.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification.
