PATENT OFFICE.
UNI-TED STATES GUSTAV BOCKA'U, OF OTTUMWA, IOWA, ASSGNOR TO OTIUMWA IRON WORKS, OF
OTTUMWA., IOWA, A CORPORATION OF IOWA.
J IGGINGr CONV'EYER.
Application led March 22, 1928.
' the type oit devices wherein the pans or units are advanced slowly and evenly, the material traveling with them by the 'friction between the material and units and the nuits returned suddenly and sharply and at a speed which overcomes the friction due to the momentum the material leaving it advanced an amount substantially that oi the forward movement of the pans or units. The material is conveyed thus With a step by step action.
It is desirable that the rollers upon which the pans or units are mounted during this movement remain accurately in registration with tracks both upon the pans or units and upon the ground or other lixed support. Ac-V curate registration is desirable both laterally of the pans themselves and lengthwise in the direction of the conveying movement. Prior to my invention tedious and extended adj ustment between the parts oit the conveyor when it is arranged Afor operation has been. necessary and my invention contemplates the provision oit a construction greatly minii'nizing such adjustment.
An important object oi' the invention7 in addition to the diminution of required adjustment, is the provision ot a construction insuring greater accuracy in the conveying action.
Numerous other objects and advantages ol the invention will be apparent as the invention is better understood from the :following description, which, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, discloses a preferred embodiment thereof.
Beterrin g to the drawings, j
Figure l is a schematic elevation ot a jigging conveyer showing the same arranged vfor operation in a coal or other mine;
Vlitiga 2 is an enlarged transverse section through one oit the pans and showing the roller and track construction :in elevatnn;
Serial No. 263,631.
Fig. 3 is a partial side elevation of the structure shown in Fig. 2.
For the purpose of illustrating my present invention l. ha ve shown in Fig. l Aoit the drawings a part ot a j igging conveyor comprising a plurality oif jigging pans 1l connected t0- gether in suitable or usual lfashion at their adjacent ends as indicated by reference characters l2. The conveyer pans thus connected constitute an extended conveyor which is reciprocated upon rollers il by suitable power mechanism diagrammatically ii'idicated at l5. The rollers ll; are mounted upon crosssllatts l() and engage upper' tracks 17 secured to the pan and lower tracks 18 arranged upon the mine door 19. i
Referring new to Fig. 3, it will be noted that the tracks 1S consist or may consist of short sections cach built up of longitudinal angle irons 2l and cross end angles 22. A short section is arranged beneath each roller 14; and it. Will be understood that the back and forth movement of the roller occurs throughout a short path of travel.
Each of the pans is el sheet metal con struction having a base L3, upwardly inclined side walls 24 and downwardly extending edge flanges 25. The tracks 17 are preferably o'l" angle iron constriu-,tion and are preferably arranged to entend up into the space between the inclined pan Wall 24 and the vertical llange 25, one flange 2G ot such angle iron being arranged in contact with the lange 25 and secured to it at intervals as indicated at 27 by spot Welding or otherwise.
The track member 17 is illustrated arranged at an angle to the pan but this arrangement is no part of my present invention.
I provide a'plurality o'l' teeth 31 upon the peripl'iery of each .roller lll and arrange corresponding openings or apertures 32 in the horizontal flange 33 of the track angle iron 2l. Companion openings 34 are provided in the horizontal. flange 35 of each track angle '17 secured to the pan.
These teeth in entering into the openings 32 and 34 maintain the registry of the rollers and both sets o'l track transversely of the pans and insure accurate, even reciprocating movement olf the pans in the conveying action. lt will b illy' apparent that il t nstruc l n I l idee the i y entire apparatus.self-adjusting Within limits, and insures also against disarrangement of the parts in service which will require readjustment.
It is thought that the invention and many of its attendant advantages will be understood from the foregoing Without further description, and it will be apparent that various changes may be kmade in the construetion, and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope oi the invention or sacrificing all of its material advantages, the form hereinbeiiore described be- -ing merely a preferred embodiment thereof.
I claim:
l. In a jigging conveyer, the combination of a pan along which it is intended to pass the material, stationary tracks adjacent thereto, rollers supporting said pan from said track and oscillating as an inc-ident to said conveyer, saidv rollers andsaid track having interlocking parts preventing lateral'movement of said rollers on said tracks.
2. In a jigging conveyer, the'eombination of a pan along Which material is to be oonveyed in the jigging action, tracks carried by said pan and tracks arranged in fixed relation therebeneath, rollers engaging the tracks ot the pan and said stationary tracks, said rollers and tracks having interlocking parts preventing lateral relative movement therebetween.
3. In a jiggingconveyer, the combination o'l a pan along which material is to be conveyed in the jigging action, tracks carried by said pan and tracks arranged in lxed relation therebeneath, rollers engaging the tracks ot' the pan and said stationary tracks, said rollers and tracks having interlockingr parts insuring predetermined movement between said rollers and tracks in the direction ot the conveying movement.
el.. In a jigging eonveyer, the combination of a pan along which material is to be conveyed in the jigging action, tracks carried by said pan and tracks arranged in tixed relation therebeneatll, rollers engaging the tracks of the pan and said stationary tracks, said rollers having protruding teeth upon their rolling faces and said tracks being provided with openings for the receiving ot said teeth in the rolling action.
