ATTACHMENT FOR TABLES.
Application filed October 11, 1926. Serial No. 140,924.
This invention relates to attachments more particularly useful with card tables to provide additional supporting surface for drinking glasses, ash trays, etc.
The object of my invention is to provide a device, of the kind referred to, which presents a neat and attractive appearance; which is easily applied and removed from the table; is conducive to ready and economical manufacture; and which, when attached, leaves the entire area of the table top free and unobstructed for card playing.
With reference to the drawings, Fig. I is a perspective view showing my improved table attachment and the manner in which it is used.
Fig. II is a sectional elevation, taken as indicated by the arrows IIII in Fig. I; and,
Fig. III, a sectional view in accordance with the arrows IIIIII in Fig. I.
As shown in these illustrations, the device comprises a member 10 which provides a supplemental lateral supporting surface 11, the same being fashioned to the configuration shown, preferably from sheet metal, with an angular recess 12 and coextensive project-, ing flange 13 adapted to abuttinglyengage and marginally underlap a corner of the table T in predetermining a position for the surface 11 at a level somewhat below that of the table top. As a means to cooperate with the flange 13 in detachably securing the member 10 to the table T, I provide a clamping plate 14 which is made of angular configuration to correspond to said flange. This clamp plate 14 is integrally formed with a depending tongue 15 that extends vertically downward through an aperture 16 in the member retaining flange 24 around its top. At each side of the opening 22 the member 10 is equipped with radially disposed channelled rests 25, 26 for supporting cigars or cigarettes with their ends overhanging the ash tray 23.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the I device is exceedingly simple in construction,
capable of easy application and removal from the table T by operation of the adjusting screw 18, which is readily accessible from beneath, and leaves the entire table surface absolutely vfree and unobstructed for use in card playing.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim:
1. An attachment for tables comprising a sheet metal member providing a supplemental lateral supporting surface with an angular recess to abut and marginally underlap an angular corner of the table; and a cooperative clamping device for passage through an aperture at the crotch of the recess, said device embodying an angular limb adapted to overlap the corner of the table in detachably securing said member in place.
2., An attachment for tables comprising a member providing a supplemental lateral supporting surface with an angular recess'- and marginal downwardly projecting o flange-to abut and underlap a corner of the table top; a cooperating correspondinglyconfigured angular'wing plate for engaging the top of the table; and a clamping screw 10 at the crotch of the angular recess 12, and
of the screw 18 engages a bearing plate 19 on the under side of the flange 13, and, ac-
- cordingly, as it is rotated draws the plate 14 downwardly into clamping engagement with the tabletop.
operable'from beneath said member to adjust '85 the wing plate in detachablysecuring the at- V tach nent in place. a
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name atthe city of Lancaster,
Pennsylvania, this fourth day of October,
JULIA e.- MeVEY.
