Patented May 21, 1929.
I UNI TE STATES PATENT OFFICE;
PERRIERS-SUR-ANDELLE, FRANCE.
ATOMIZER.
Application filed September s,',1927, seriarno. 218,271, and in France Februar 25, 192i,
The objects of my invention are: 7, First, toprovide an atomizing devlce designed to be adapted onliquid atomizers of all kinds characterized byf'th'e fact that it allows of regulating the atomized jet at any time and at the users will, by a simple action of screwing orunscrewing.
Second, to
pressed liquid is admitted concentrically to it insucl1a" manner as to comein contact with a nozzle of conical'shape provided, at the outlet. i
The apparatus according to invention comprises a frame carrying an inlet needle valve for the gaseous streainand a cap provided with an inner conical bearing which may be adjusted" in'relation toeach other, either frointhe outside, the needle valve being'in that case stationary and the cap mov-, able or fromsthe interiorthe cap then being stationary and the needlevalve movable,
The various arts'of the device are assembled in an air-ftig t manner but the maynevertheless be easily and rapidly ta en apart for repairing or c caning purposes. j I
The appended drawingsshow as examples, two modes of construction of "an atomi'zing apparatus arranged according to the inven tion.
in which thdregulafion fi'ected from'ithe exterior. M
Fig; 2 is a similar view of thesecond inodej of execution I in: which the regulationis effected from the interior of the perfume'con tainerQ The-apparatusshown in Fig. 1 comprises a tubular frame or body 1 provided with a screwthreaded bearing 2 which extends which may either be milled or connected with a hand lever 11, it is providedwith acylinrovide an arrangement which consists in causin'g the gaseous stream to'fiow, in theaxis of the outlet whllst the com- Fig. 1 is alongitudinal sectionalview of the first. mode of execution of the atomizer screwthreaded cap .ing off the cover 23.
drical bore and at its lowerfendwith a I conical headcommunicating with the atmosphere by an orifice 14 of very reduced section In the portion v6 of the body 1 screws a member 15 provided .on theone hand with a head 16 for example to allow its manipula tion and on the other hand with a cylindrical smooth extension 17jof lesser diameter ter minating'in ahead 18 which forms a slight shoulder upon said part and presents the shape of acone whose conicity is equal to that'of theseat 13. A longitudinal bore 19 c extends from-the head 18 to the head 16 in the vicinity of which it is provided with an enlargement endi'ng'in a large flaring por- 7 tion. The opposite wall of thereservoir or container is provided opposite thehead 16 and co-axially with the device with "an inlet nozzl'e for thecompressed air or gas; Lastly,
the body 1 is provided with a smalltrans- '75 verse screwthreaded portion upon which is screwed the end of a tubular member 21 which is fitted a glass or metal tube forth'e admission of the liquid in the borejojf the v body 1. It will be easily understoodthat the 8 compressedgas will also cause the liquid to v ascend in saidbore in such a manner' as to 'cause it to reach withfa certain ra-pidity the conical head 13 in the shape of a very thin cylindrical filmlowing to the slight play ex- 35 t "istingf betweenfthe head i 18 of the needle valve and the bore 12 of the cap, Theimpact 7 upon the head 13 will draw back theismall {fluid streams towards the center-where they are atomized and carried outwards'bythe t gaseous current admitted through the axial passage 19 of the needle valve 1 It will her-apparent that it 'sufiicesin order 7 to regulate the atomized jet to tighten the 10 or to unscrew it by'95 i means of thelejver 11 according as it'isdesired to increase or not the discharged jet, At the end of the operation the cap must be screwed tightly until the head l3 becomes looked upon the nozzle 18 the whole appairatusbeing thus hermetically locked.
In the modified form of construction" shown inFig. 2, the general disposition is essentially thesame with the difference that the cap 10 is stationary and acts in the same manner asthe nut 5 in the first case. The.
regulation is effected here byqmeans of the needle valve by operatin'g'from the inside the head 16 which is integral with it after -tak-,
part of this specificationtwo specific e1nbodi-,
ments of said invention which have proved very efiicient in'pract-ice, it will be under stood that I do not limit myself to the particular constructions herein disclosed inasmuch as many modifications may be made therein without departing from the principle of my invention. 7
lVhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. An atoinizing device comprising a liquid container, means having a duct therethrough in communication with the interior of the container below the liquid line therein and a discharge orifice opening to the atmosphere, a valve member having a passage therethrough adapted to control thedischarge orifice, said passage through the valve memher communicatingwith the interior of the' container above the liquid line therein, and means through which fluid under pressure can be introduced into the container.
2. An atomizing'device for liquids com prising a container, a tubular body extending through a wall ofthe container,- a tube communicating with sand tubular body extending'lnto the container to a PQlllhbelOVV the normal height of liquid in the container, 7
' a discharge orifice at the end of the tubular body openingto the atmosphere, a needle valve disposed in the tubular body designed to control the discharge orifice in said tubular body, and a passage extending lengthwise through said needle valve and opening inside the liquid container above the normal height of the liquid therein, f
3. An adjustable atoniizing' device "for liquids comprising a container,a tubular body extending through a wall of the con tainer, a tube in communication with said tubular body extendmg 111t0 l3l18 container to a point below the normal height of the liquid in said container, a discharge orifice at the end of said tubular body opening to the at mosphere, a needle valve disposed in the tubular body and movable longitudinally relatively thereto for controlling the dis charge orifice in said tubular body, and a passage extending lengthwise through the needle valve and opening in the liquid container above the normal height of the liquid therein. i 5
4. An adjustable atomizing device for liquids comprising a liquid container, a tubular body secured in'the wall of the liquid container and extending into the interior thereof, a discharge orifice at the outer endof said tubular body, an adjustable head at -the discharge end of the tubular body, said'head having on itsinterior a conical seat, a tube in communication with the interior of the tubular body extending into the container to a point below the normal surface of the liquid therein, a needle valve in the tubular body having a conical head for cooperation With the interior conical seat on the adjustable head, and a passage extending lengthwise through the needle valveand opening inside the liquid container above thenormal surface of the liquid therein. y j a 5. An adj ust, ble atomizing device for liquids comprisinga liquid container, a tubular body secured in'the wall of the liquid container and extending into the interiorthere of, a discharge orifice at the outer' end of the tubular body, an adjustable head at the discharge endof the tubular body having an in ternal seating face a tube in communication with the interior of the tubular body and ex: tending into the container to a point below thenormal surface of the liquid therein, a needle valve in the tubular body having one end provided with a seat for cooperation with the seat on the adjustable head, a nut locking the tubular body upon the container,
and a packing about said tubular body adapt ed to be compressed by tlie'nutand provide a stufiingboxfaround the adjustablehead. In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name.
