Application Med May 7, 1926, Serial No. 107,512, and in France Iay 12, 1925.
Mops with detachable fringes comprise a frame on which the fringe is secured, the fringe being removable therefrom in order that it may be easily washed or changed as required. This detachable connection has hitherto been effected by means of buttons fringe to the frame, the buttons or hooks no longer coincide with their respective openin s and the attachment of the fringe is difiicult or impossible.
The present invention has for its object to provide a mop head with detachable fringe the essential feature of which consists in the means adopted to secure the fringe on the frame or head. For this purpose the lower surface of the frame is provided with an interrupted or continuous groove of curvilinear contour in which the edge of the fringe is placed. The edge is thickened for this urpose and forms a pad which engages in t e groove from which'it can only be removed by an endwise sliding movement.
Consequently however much the fringe may become lengthened or shortened the edge thereof can always be inserted in the said fixing groove; it is held firmly therein owing to the sinuous shape of the groove and without. the necessity for male and female engaging members.
The accompanying drawing illustrates by way of exam le, two forms of construction of my improve mop head.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the fringe, with part in section,
Fi 2 is a plan view of the under side of the ame,
Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 33 of Fig. 2,
lg. 4 is a plan view of the top of the Fig. 5 is a section on line 55 of Fig. 4,
Fig. 6 is a section on line 66 of Fig. 2, the fringe bein in place, Fig. 7 is a etail view of a modification and illustrates a method of assembling the various parts of the frame, I
Fig. 8 is an underside plan view of a modified form of construction of the frame,
Fig. 9 is a section on line 9-9 of Fig. 8, Fig. 10 is a diagrammatic view showin the manner in which the fringe is arrange in the frame.
The fringe a (Fig. 1) is mounted on an edging b which connects the strands of the fringe and inside which is placed a pad 0 of cord or any other material.
The edging is thus in the form of a long pad from which the fringe hangs.
' The frame, illustrated in Fi 2, is formed of two sheets of metal d, e 0 suitable section and the assembling of which forms underneath an undercut groove comprising several portions f, g, h, i which are not in continuation of one another.
In order to put the fringe in place one of the ends of its padded edge is ushed into the groove f in the direction of t e arrow The other end of the padded edge which is thickened, is stopped at k and serves as a fixing point. Then the edge is passed into the grooves g, h and finally into the middle groove 2.
In order to remove the fringe the reverse operation is performed.
The two plates (5, e can be connected by means of rivets or by bolts and nuts I.
In the modification of construction, illustrated in Fi 7, the plates d, e are connected by meanso bolts Z with winged or milledheaded nuts m. In this way, by unscrew the nuts the plates d, e can be slightly so rated at the insertion of the fringe in or er to facilitate this operation, as the thickness of the pad may not always be exactly uniform.
The mop-handle is fixed,'for instance, in
articulated on the upper part of i Having now particularly described and ascertained the. nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is A mop fabric having a thickened flexible upper edge, and a frame having a perimetrical groove the walls of which are rigid and said groove having a restrlcted entrance slot and corresponding cross-sectionally 1n size and shape with the said thickened upper edge of the mop so that said thickened upper edge is engaged and held between said walls, and in which said edge is arranged by sliding movement longitudinally of said thickened edge. I Y
In witness whereof I affix my signature.
GU STAVE BURLAT.
