SUPERHEATER.
Application filed October 23, 1924.A Serial No.4 745,28d.
My present invention relates to superheaters, particularly of the type in Which the superheater is exposed to the radiant heat of the furnacej invention will be best understood rom the following description, taken with the annexed drawing, in which Fig. 1 shows a boiler of the Stirling type embodying an illustrative form of my invention and Fig. 2 is a fragmentary View looking from the left et Fig. 1, the front Wall'being removed.
The boiler of the type illustrated comprises a mud drum .and steam and Water drums l11, 12 and 13, the various steam and Water drums connected to the mud drum by banks of inclined Water tubes 15, 15et and lbf It will be noted that the Water tubes 15 connecting mud drum 10 and steam and Water drum 11 are, tor the most part, exposed to the radiant heat of the furnace, herein illustrated as comprising a grate 17. Among these tubes thus exposed to the radiant heat, I preferably locate a superheater which in the illustrated form, has headers 19 and 20 connected by tubes 21.. Baiiles 23, 2d, 25 and 26 are provided to cause a properdow of the gases over the entire set of boiler tubes. .Preferably l locate the headers 19 and 2O back of lthe first bame 23 and thereby protect them from thel radiant heat of the furnace. Steam from "the drum 13 is passed through `the pipe 2d into the header 19 of the superheater and Hows trom the superheater at header 20.
its illustrated, I intersperse the'tubes et the superheater, preferably regularly, among those ot the boiler. 1n the speeilic lorni ll have shown., the boiler tubes l5 in the trent barili are Widely spaced across the boiler, and tivo superheater tubes 21 inserted in each ot the spaces so formed. By this means the superheater tubes are partially surrounded by boiler tubes, every superheater tube being next and relatively close to at least one ot the boiler tubes.'
heater, overheating of tie superb-eater will be minimized by the proximity of tubes containing Water at a considerably lower tem perature.
It will be understood that the specilic arrangement l have shown is illustrative only and that various other arrangements of the superheater and boiler tubes can be made Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. In combination with a Water tube boiler, having a plurality of Water tubes exposed to the radiant heat of the furnace, `a bam@ behind said tubes, a superheater comprising headers located back of said baille and tubes connecting said headers and extending in front otsaid baille and entirely exposed on oneside to the radiant heat of the furnace, said superheater tubes being spaced among `said boiler tubes.
tubes.
