This invention relates to a toilet appliance, more particularly to a toilet appliance useful in connection with bathing and similar bodily hygienic purposes.

Our invention has for an object thereof the provision of a toilet appliance in the nature of an electric motor driven reciprocable member, such as a brush or massaging device, which may be used during bathing or similar bodily hygienic operations, involving per sonal cleanliness, whereby this pleasurable and necessary operation may be quickly and facilely obtained with maximum comfort and eiiiciency and minin'ium edortQ More particularly, our invention has for an object thereof. the provision of a bath room up pliance in the nature of a bathing brush, so mounted and electrically operated so that application of a bathing brush to all parts of the body may be accomplished with great facility and ease and maximum effectiveness, the device including a reciprocable brush operating electric motor, universally positionable, to be capable of being guided to all parts of the body, the mounting furtherincluding complete isolation of an electric prime mover, such as a motor, so that a brush, sponge or similar cleansing or lathoring device may be applied during a copiousapplication and use of water, as while bathing in a tub or shower without danger of rendering inoperative the motor parts. The invention further contemplates the provision of a toilet appliance which may be conveniently used while making ones toilet and bathing for either facilitating the bathing operation involving the cleansing operation by a motor operated, reciprocable bath brush which may be applied with a copious amount of water or one which may be readily applied for operating other body applicators, such as a sponge or massaging device for the invigorating action derived from a vibratory member Etill more particularly, our invention rc' lates to a toilet appliance particularly useful for such personal hygienic purposes as. bath ing which is electricaly controlled, free yet operable while bathing and further easily and comfortably applicable to the body, yet simple and inexpensive to operate and manufacture. Making referenceto the drawing, our device maybest be illustrated as associated with a bath appliance, such as a bath tub, where at some stationary pointwe provide our appliance generally referred to at 10, supported from a fiXedpoint such as the wall by a bracket ll and the interposed, universally This preferably comprises a pair of horizontally disposed arms 13, and 14, and a rearward, vertically disposed arm 15, of substantial L shape, having a downwardly disposed pintle 16, disposed in the bracket 11 and held in frictional pivotal engagement by the nut 1.7.

An extension 18 on the arm 12, having an eyelet 19 is joined to the horizontally disposed portion of the arm 15 by a coiled spring 20. The forward ends of the arms 13 and i l are connected to the vertical arm 21 by eyelets 22 and 23 and interposed pins 24. and 25, respectively, permitting pivotal movement of the arms 13 and l l,with respect of the arm 21, in. a vertical direction. A central shaft 26 is passed, through the eyelets 22 and 23, respectively, and held in position for movement with frictional contact by the end spring washers 27 and the cotter pins 28, passing diametrically through the shaft 26. Mounted upon the shaft 26. between the members and 23, there is disposed a bracket 29 arranged for horizontal movement upon the shaft 26. Disposed from the bracket 29 there provided aiflange 30, to which is con nected'by screw mounting or dovetail connection the housing 81. This housing has, at one end thereof, a centrally constricted. por tion 32 serving to centrally position a prime mover in the nature of an electric motor positioned so that the one end is centered in the constricted portion of the housing and the opposite end outwardly disposed toward the outer end of the housing. The rotary shaft 34: of the motor is centered within the plate 35 through the orifice 36, in which isdisposed a gland packing 37 for purposes which will become apparent asthis description procoeds. The extreme end of the shaft at is supplied with an end plate 38, upon which is Cir 44 serves to position the cross head assembly and hold the same within the housing against displacement. Reciprocal movement is imparted to the cross head 43 by the eccentric pin 39, which extends into ahorizontally disposed slot 45, in the cross head 43. It will be observed that rotary movement of the eccentric pin will serve to impart reciprocating movement to the cross head 43. Mounted upon upon the cross head 43 there is provided an appliance bracket 46 having at one terminal thereof a ball 47 This serves to posltion a body appliance device such as the brush 48, provided with a ball socket joint 49 engaging the ball 47. A bolt and wing nut 50 serves to position the brush at any predetermined angular position relatively to the ball 47 which is provided with a cross pin 50' engaging aslot of the socket to prevent lateral movement. In use, the prime mover, such as the electric motor 33, is connected with a source of current sup ly by the conductor 51,

"It willbe further observed that though we have described a reciprocating brush useful g in bathing purposes as applied to the prime mover, such as the electric motor, such other devices as a sponge, wash cloth or massaging device may be attached thereto, in which event the motor may be operated at any de-' sired speedbest suitable for this purpose so that for washing purposes. relatively slow speed and vibration will'be imparted to the reciprocating member whereas for purposes of obtaining the invigorating action of the vibrator, the movement of the reciprocating member maybe shortened and the speed thereof increased;

r In this manner it will be observed that we have rovided a device'which may be simply and acilely applied and used during such r hygienic operations as'bathing whereby maximum effectiveness may be obtained with greatest facility, ease and comfort.

Having thus described our invention and illustrated its use, what we claim as new and desire to secure 1) 1 Letters Patent, is-

1. In a toilet appliance for combination with a bathing device, an electrical prime mover, a housing for said prime mover enclosing the same against ingress of water, means for supporting said prime mover in relatively universal positions, means operable by said prime mover for imparting a reciprocating movement to a body brush.

2. In a toilet appliance for combination with a bathing device, an electrical prime mover, a housing for said prime mover enclosing the same against ingress of water, means for supporting said prime mover, means operable by said prime mover for imparting a reciprocating movement to a body brush.

3. In a toilet appliance for combination with a bathing device, an electrical prime mover, a housing for said prime mover enclosing the same against ingress of water, means for supporting said prime mover, a guide on said housing, a reciprocating member in said guide operable by said prime mover, and means on said member for mounting a body applicator.

4. In a toilet appliance, in combination with a bathing device, an electric motor, a housing for said motor, means connected with said housing for supporting the same in predetermined positions relatively to said bathing device, means on said housing for completely enclosing said electric motor a late in said housing through which the she t of said motor extends and means on said plate for rendering said motor inacccsible to water,

a guide on said housing and a reciprocating member mounted in said guide and means connected with said shaft for movin" said reciprocating member and a body appliance attached to and operated by said reciprocating member.

5. In a toilet appliance, in combination with a bathing device, an electrical prime mover, a housing for said prime mover, means for mounting said housing in predetermined position, said electrical prime mover having the shaft thereof connected for moving a body appliance and means on said housing for enclosing said shaft to prevent ingress of \vaterto the electrical prime mover.

6. In a toilet appliance, in combination with a bathing device, an electrical prime mover, a housing for said prime mover and means for mounting said housing in predetermined position, said housing comprising a constricted portion for centering and positioning a portion of the electrical rime mover, a bearing plate through whic the shaft of said motor extends and means on said shaft to prevent ingress of Water comprising a gland packing for said shaft and means on said housing for mounting a movable body appliance device and means on said shaft connected With said body appliance device for innaarting movement thereto.

7. In a toilet appliance, in combination with a bat-hing device, an electrical prime mover, a housing for said prime mover and means for mounting said housing in predeterinined position, said housing comprising a constricted portion for centering and positioning a portion of the electrical prime mover, a bearing plate through which the shaft of said motor extends and means on 5 said plate permitting rotary movement of said shaft to prevent ingress of Water comprising a gland packing for said shaft and means on said housing for reciprocally mounting a movable body appliance device and means on said shaft connected With said body appliance device for imparting reciprocal movement thereto.
