Description

April 30, 1929.
c. w. BOND COMBINATION MILKING STOOL AND PAIL HOLDER Filed June 20, 1928 ERW Patented Apr; 30, 1929.-
PATENT 5 OFFICE CHARLES W. BOND, OF LA GRANDE, OREGON.
COMBINATION MILKING STOOL AND PAID HOLDER.
Application filed. June 20, 1928. Serial No. 286,845.
This invention relates to a combination milking stool and pail holder.
The main object is to provide an efficient and sturdy device which will protect the milk from foreign matter such as dirt, dust or the like, and which will have a milk receiving element and means for readily adjusting the milk receiving element bot-h. vertically and horizontally.
Another object is to provide a device of the above named character which will be simple in construction and readily dismantled for cleaning and the like.
With these and other objects inview, the in vention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of the parts as hereinafter setforth and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a side view, partly broken away, of my invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 8 is a detail of the retaining ratchet and its associated elements.
In practicing my invention I provide a pail holder 1 of any suitable material and shape being here shown as circular and having the flared walls or sides 2 and adapted to receive the conventional milk pail 8. A top or closure 4: is attached by a hinge 5 to the side 2 and at a diametrically opposite point a conventional spring catch 6 is secured to releasably retain the top a in the closed position. 7 is a handle affixed to a medial point of the top by means of which the pail holder and associated elements may be carried from place to place. It is obvious that a conventional bail (not shown) may readily be used in lieu of the handle 7 if desired.
Secured to the pail holder 1 near its top and to one side of the spring catch 6 is a bracket 8 havingan aperture 21 in which rotatably andslidably mounted an elongated circular post 9 and a set screw or wing bolt 10 in the bracket 8 permits the post 9 to be secured in any adjusted position. A swinging arm element or assembly 11 0f the conventional parallel motion type is provided, the same comprising the spaced parallel levers 12 and 13 pivoted at one end in the post 9 at 14 and being pivotally connected at 16 at their outer ends to a cross piece 15. Extended outthat the arm element or assembly 11 may be swung up or down as desired and the funnel 19 will at all times remain in the vertical position. To retain the arm assembly 11 in any adjusted position I provide the arcuate ratchet arm 22 secured at its lower end to the post 9 at 28 and having the ratchet teeth 33 v upon. its inner margin as shown.
Spaced brackets 24: and 25 areseeured upon the lever 12 and a pawl 26 is slidably mounted therein being spring set by coil spring 27.
braced between the bracket 24 and a collar 28 which normally holds the said pawl in engagement with the ratchet teeth. A finger piece 29 is provided to operate the pawl and it willbe understood that the arm assembly '11 may be secured in any adjusted position by this means. I
The funnel 19 is provided with an elbow 30 over the end of which may be placed a flexible tube or hose 31 made of rubber or the like, which extends within the pail holder 1 through a suitable aperture in the side thereof,
so that milk discharged into the funnel 19 will flow into the pail 3. The tube 31 is supported by small loops or hangers 32 secured to the lever 13 and these loops are preferably made of spring material to allow the tube 31 to be readily removed therefrom for cleaning.
The use of the device will be obvious from the foregoing and it will be understood that the funnel 19 maybe adjusted vertically by raising the entire supporting assemblymount' ed upon the post 9 in the bracket 8 and also by swinging the arm assembly 11 up or down.
The funnel may be adjusted horizontally by turning the post 9 in the bracket 8.
While I have herein set forth a preferred embodiment of my invention it is understood thatl may varyfrom the same in minor details within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
In .a device of the character described, a
pawl slidably mounted upon the parallel motion frame and adapted to engage the said ratchet arm to lock the frame at any set po- 10 sition.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
CHARLES W. BOND.
