IMPROVEMENT IN PENClL-SHARPENERS.
Specification 'formingvpart of. Letters Patent No. 171,110, dated December 14, 1875; application filed June 2, 1875.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, ISAAC T. DYER, of
Streator, in the county of La Salle and State drical case, which is provided with a corrugated conical sharpener, a thimble for holding an erasing-substance, and a partition for regulating the depth which the erasing-substance extends, the partition being provided with an aperture, whereby the end of a pencil may bear against an elastic substance and not be broken or injured, as the whole is hereinafter described and shown.
In the drawings, Figure l is a longitudinal section of my improvement; Fig. 2, a transverse thereof on line 00, Fig. l.
A represents cylindrical case, which is made of metal or other suitable material, and provided with a corrugated conical sharpener, C, of such shape as to give a suitable form to the point of lead or slate pencil. In practice, the corrugated cone C may be made of steel, and placed in'a cylinder, A, of brass or White metal, or other non-corrosive material. The end of the cylinder from dotted lines B on its inside may be provided with a screw-thr ad, to better lTold a pencilpoint in the case. The
partition F is provided with an aperture, 8, by
meansfof which a pencil-point, in being sharpened, may come in contact with the rubber E, and not be broken and injured. Another function of; the partition is to prevent the rubber from being put into the cylinder A so far as to interfere with the sharpening process. From D to D, in the inside of the cylinder, is cut a screw-thread, P, for holding the erasing -substancefirmly in place.
In' the drawing, Fig. l, a pencil is in position as when being sharpened or placed in the case as a protection against injury.
I claim as new The cylindrical case A, provided with a pencil-sharpening device, C, apartition with aperture s, and screw-thread P, for supporting an eraser, as set forth.
ISAAC T. DYER.
