Description

April 30, 1929; A. SCHILLING ET AL APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING OIL GAS Filed Nov. 23. 1926 4 /I TTORNE Y Patented Apr. 30, 1929.
UNITED STATES 1,110,000 PATENT OFFICE;
AUGUST SGHILLING AND RICHA BD-SACHSE, OF SAN FRANCISCO, DIMITRI LIAMIN,
DE LOS ANGELES, AND THEOFIEL GALLAERT, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING OIL GAS.
Application filed Kovember 23, 1926. Serial No. 150,203.
The present invention rehitcs to an up: paratus for the production of gas from oil.
The principal object of the present invention is in the dcsii'rn and construction of a, gas generator wherein multiple streams of oil for generation are delivered into an apparatus in substantially different zones or chambers the heat or combustion from one stream heating the well against which the other streams project, insuring; the proper temperature for its cracking Another ob ject is the provision of a suitable injector tor the oil streams, whereby combustion in the presence of steam and air is assured. A further object the particular construction of the generator inter-ion whereby the maximum ctlicicncy in an apparatus tor this purpose is essurcrh and the gases generated by V the cracking: 'Jfl' llle oil projected against the heated Wall are intcruiixecl with the gases oi combustion end are conveyed from the generator for purification and further treatment in the well known prmj'tise of gu s manufacture.
lVith the above and otl'icr objects in View, the invention consists broadly in the production of Water and oil gas and oil from shale by Whatmay be termed a down draft combustion process.
In the draw. V disclosing the preferred embodiment of apparatus tor carrying out the present invcntion Fig. 1 av vertical sectional view of the oil gas generator.
Fig. 2 is a transverse line 2--2 of Fig. 1. i
Fig. is :1 View in enlarged detail vertical section of the oil gas and air injector-discharging into the dome of the oil gas generator.
Our present invention consists of an oil gas generator comprising a metallic or other casing 44L, refractorily lined at l5, the two being insulated by :i lining 4:4. The genorator is provided with the conventional cupolzi opening normally closed by a reinova iile closure plate 47 through on opening in which. is threaded atv 48 a cylindrical shell 49 discharging axially into the generator through a discharge opening 50. Air enters the shell through ports 51 and Extending: axially into the shell 4-9 and longitudinally adjustable therein is a means tor supplying oil to be intermixed with steam to afford combustion and to maintain a high sectional view on temperature in the ga s generatingchamber l3, and the same'eompriscs a steam injector nozzle 53 concentrically withinivl'iicli is disposed an oil discharge nozzle 54, theitwo nozzles discharging through the "opening fiflf in. the shell 49. Oil'is suppliedto nozzle 54 through pipe 55, and steam is supplied to nozzle 53 through pipe 5 jg m a boiler or steam generator 56.
The shell. 49 discharges downwardly through an opening in the apex of a frusto conical chamber 57 disposed concei'itrically Within the generatingchzunber-l3. The
Wall of the elimnbcr constri'lcted preterm bly of refractory units '58 lurid iulsuccessive circimiter-cutieI. series with adjacent ends of certain of the unitslyi-ng in spacedfirelet-ion affording combustion outlets 59L The area, of the outlets 59 increase as the successive series approach the checker hearth. The frust-o-couical chamber rises from a coir rentionol brick checker hearth urdly through which; extend passages -61 connected with oil gas collecting chambers in the base of thcfgenerator, andtrom which chambers leads a pipe or conduit 63' for connecting with the generator and boiler 56 for conducting oil gas from the gas gen crating chamber 13, thegas passing through the boiler and discharging therefrom through pipe, not shown, into :1 purifier, not llll'tStPfltOfl, Against the units fortn- 60 down- 1 ing the Wall of chamber 57' is directed on atomized mixture of oil and steam dischiirg- V the nozzles 53 and 54, illustrated in Fig. 3
of the drawings. The oil nozzlesof thcuto Inizers are supplicdfroni a common feed. 55 broncluing 'fronipipeofi and steam is supplied to the steam nozzle of each generator through a brunchlpipe 56" "extc'nded from. the pipe 533. V j I The atomized stream of oil steam and air discharging from the opening 50 into the apex of the frustdconical chamber 57strikcs the upper sin-taco of the checker hearth 60 and ignited by the temperature thereof and the extreme heat thercot' maintains its sin-taco at it high temperature, and also maintoins the units 58 in an extremely highly heated cijuulition. .Thcigttscs of combustion pass from the chzilnliier 57 through outlets 52) and intcrmix' with the gases Within the gas generating chamber L3 which are pro dueed by cracking the atomized streams of oil and steam discharged on to the outer surrace of the Wall of the chamber 57 by the battery of atoi'nizers 64:. The gases generat ed by the cracking and the gases of combus; tion passing from chamber 57 are drawn downwardly thrmig'h the checker hearth (30, and the temperature thereof is maintained sutliciently high thereby to ensure the production of oil 3; s. These cases pass through openings 61, tl'iroupgh pipe (33, and steam generator 56, wherein the same are cooled, the heat absorbed therefrom generating steam which is supplied to the members 53 and 56.
o claim An'oil gas producing apparatus, comprising an oil gas generating chamber provided With a checkered hearth, a Wall of refractory material rising from said hearth concentrieally Within said generator dividing its i11terior into a plurality of concentrically disposed chambers said Wall provided near its base with a plurality of apertures allot-ding connectin; passages between said chan'ibers,
means for dischargnur a combiistible mixture oi? oil air and steam axially in a downward dir ion Into sale inner chamber and to ard said checkered hearth, means for discharging;- a jet stream of oil and steam against the outer surface of said refractory wall above said apertures, and means for Withdrawing the resultant gases from said chan'ibcrs through said checkered hearth.
In testimony whereof W0 have signed our names to this specification.
