MILK-BOTTLE CAP. y
Application filed December 3Q, 1926'. Serial No. 158,069.
rIhe present invention relates to improvements in milk bottle closures and has for its primary object to provide a milk bottle cap having means for eiliciently removing the cap from the bottle.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a cap of the above character arranged to detacliably engage a cap pulling member by means of which the cap may be efficiently removed from the bottle opening.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a milk bottlecap carrying a pulling member arrangedto withdraw the 7 cap without tearing or mutilating the same so that the cap may be repeatedly used as a closure.
Still another object of the invention'is theY provision of a milk bottle cap of the above character which is simple and durable of construction and efficient for the purpose intended.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the description progresses. n
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification wherein like reference characters are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved cap shown in operative position as a closure for a milk bottle,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional viei taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure Slis a top plan view of the cap with the pulling member removed, and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the cap pulling member.
Referring to the drawing, wherein forthe purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 generally designates a milk bottle cap of conventional construction adapted to be snugly fitted in the delivery opening of a milk bottle 11. In the construction of the cap for the present application, the cap member may be formed of paper or suitable material and is preferably waxed. transversely in the center of the cap for engagement with a pulling member is an elongated slit 12.
The pulling member embodies a substantially lshaped member 13 of relatively thin structure constructed of paper or other suitable material and comprises a rectangular elongated base strip 14 materially longer Formed in structure than the length of the slit 12 in the bottle cap, and a rightangular taper tongue 15 which is vof greater width and shorter than the base strip. The tongue is formed so as to be projected through the slit 12 and tightly fitted therein.
As clearly illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, the pulling Imember 13 is normally arranged in a substantially horizontal position lying against the cap. The tongue 15 projects through the slit 12 and is disposed on the top of the cap while the base stripV 14 is arranged beneath the cap. kWhen it is desirable to remove the bottle cap 10, the tongue 15`is elevated to a vertical position, thereby arranging the pulling member in a straight vertical position with respect to the cap. In this position, the base strip 14 will be varranged at right angles to the cap and the upper edge thereof will bear against the underside of the cap so that the cap may be removed without tearing or otherwise mutilating the same. sential feature of the construction isV to provide the pulling memberwith a relatively long base strip so as to extend substantially beyondv the edges of the slit 12 to obviate the tearing. of the pulling member or cap.
From the foregoing description and the An esdrawing, it will be readily noted that the present invention provides a closure cap particularly adaptable formilk bottles and the like having a separable pulling member designed to permit convenient and rapid rej moval of the closure cap without destroying the same so that the cap may be' repeatedly shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, lI claim:
A bottle closure comprising a cap provided with a centrally located slit, and a pullingV member embodying a `base stripV longer than the slit and occupying a position substantially parallel to and in contact with the under side of the cap, pulling memberv lso embodying a l"tongue of greater Width end Shorter than the base Strip, the tongue extending through the slit and 0eeupyinga position "substantially parallel to 5 and contacting With the upper side of the cap, the base strip and tongue'bein'g`a1'- ranged 0n opposite sides of the slit tepel-mit the entire pulling member to be moved into AIn testimony whereof he affxes his signature.
