E. E. GREVE COMBINED AIR CHAMBER-AND FLUID STRAINER FOR PUMPS Filed April e, 1927 INVENTOR (56. is w\ 16 Patented Feb. 2%, 1929.
EDGAR E. GREVE, OF BELLEVUE, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMBINED AIR CHAMBER AND FLUID STRAINER FOR PUMPS.
Application filed April 6,
This invention relates to improvements in a combined air chamber and fluid strainer structure or device designed for use in con nection with. pumps.
'll'he prime object of the present invention is. to provide a combined air chamber and strainer device oil simple and eiiicient construction and oi such a charact that the res movable strainer element thereof may be readily applied to and removed from the structure.
ldurthor objects oi the invention are. to provide a construction embodying a body portion made of a single casting and so dcsigned. that it may be readily cas" in various sizes in order to meet the desired requiren'ients as to the internal area of the device; 2. construction in which the integral cast body is formed with means for position ng aremovable strainer there j a body member formed. with two pairs 0. diametrically opposed openings respectively constituting fluid inlet and out-let openings and openings through which the replaceable st ainer element may be passed; improved closing means for the last me tioncd openings; and a constriiiction in which the replaceable strainer element is disposed between the fluid inlet and outlet openings in a plane at right angles with the axes oi? said openinp lln the acciiunpanying drawings, which illustrate an application of my invention:
Fig.1. 1 is a side elevational view of a. pump showing my invention applied thereto;
l igi 2 a central vertical sectional. View :owiup; the coiubizmd air .JCl' and drainer structure embmlying my invention. in 3.), a similar view taken on line l- .ll oi Fig. hi5); t a hori'lconta sectional. view taken on line i 7 l V o'l Fig. 2; and
5, a plan view of a closing member eu'ipioyed .iior closing one of the openings in the body throrugh Whica the replaceable straine is passed.
Referring to the drawings, 5 designates a pun-1p structure which may be 0.5 any dosired or preferred eoustructiiuu and t5 designates, genus-ally the combined air and strainer structure embodying my invention, shown applied to the pump and in connection with an outlet fluid pipe 7.
The combined. air and strainer device 6, as illustrated and as preferred, comprises an integral cast body member having; a fluid inlet opening or passage 8 and a fluid outlet 1927. Serial No. 181,592.
opening or passage 9. Inlet opening 8 is designed to be secured to the pump structure as particularly shown by Fig. 1, and the fluid outlet opening 9 connected up with the fluid discharge pipe 7. in addition to the PELSSIQQS d and 9 the body is formed with diametrically opposed openings or passages 10 and 1.1 disposed substantially at right angles to the openings 8 and 9; said openings or passages f5 and 9 together with the openings l0 and 11 constitute two pairs of openings formed in the body.
Strainer elen'ie-nt 20 is "formed with aper-.
The interior oi the body is divi led into a main air chamber 22 and an inner fluid chainire/r 23, by means of an egral wail 24; said wall 2 1- is formed with openings 25 and into n'iiich the removable strainer element 20 is adapted to be placed. and be maintained in the desired position. Within the body, i. e. in a piano at right angles to the axes of the fluid inlet and outlet passages 8 and 9.
From. the above construction it will be apparent that the Tfiplfl-Ceflblfi strainer element 20 may be readily placed within the interior of the body through the openings or 11 and that when so positioned on the interior vall 24-. will be maintained in. position by means of the projecting members 18 respectively formed on the closure members 12 and 13. A removal of the strainer element 20 may be accomplished by removing one or both of the closure members 12 and 13.
What I claim is:
1. In an air chamber and strainer device for pumps, the combination With a body having opposed fluid inlet and outlet passages and an air chamber, of a removable cylindrical strainer element disposed between said passages in a plane at right angles with the axes of said passages, said body having an opening in line With the strainer element, and closure-members for the last mentioned opening, said closure-members each provided with means for positioning and maintaining the strainer element in operative position.
2. In an air chamber and strainer device for pumps, the combination with a bod having opposed fluid inlet and outlet passages and an air chamber, oi a removable cyhndri cal strainer element disposed between said passages in a plane atright an les with the axes of said passages, said body having an opening in line With the strainer element, and closure-men'ibers for the last mentioned open ing, said closure-members each having a projection thereon arranged to enga e the strainer element.
8. In an air chamber and strainer device for pumps, the combination with a body having; two pairs of opposed openings and an air chamber, one pair of openings forming fluid inlet and outlet passages and the other pair of openings forming passages through which a strainer element may be position-ed within the body of a removable cylindrical strainer element disposed between the fluid inl t and outlet passages in a plane at right angles with the axes of said passages aid air chamber disposed above and in a plane at right angles to the axis of the screeii. and a closure-member for each of the other pair of opening .5.
at. An air chamber and fluid strainer device for pumps including an int' nl cast metal body "formed with a pair of fluid inlet and outlet openings said body havins a second pair of opposed openin disposed in plane substantially at right angles with the first pair of openings, and an air chamber disposed in a plane substantially at right angles with the second pair of openings.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature.
