This invention pertains more particularly to a method of forming briquettes from a pulverulent material and it consists in expelling. substantially all the air therefrom a after its introduction to the compression chamber and also from the ch mber before finally compressing the material into briquctte form, whereby to greatly increase the density and hardness of the finished product.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus especially adapted for use in connection with the method above set forth in which the molding chamber is provided with air venting ducts in its noncompressing port-ion of the chamber for the exit of the air that is expelled from the material and chamber during the operation of the apparatus.
A further object is to provide simple mechanism for automatically preventing the clogging of the mold air venting duets with the briquetting material during the operation of the apparatus.
in briquette forming operations where lignite, coal or coke dust, and other compressible materials are employed, the inlet end of the mold chamber through which the compress ing material passes during the die forming operation cut-rains therein a certain percentage of air as well as the material, and also an excess of molding material, which if not expelled from the die chamber prior to a compressing operation oftentimes seriously affects the molded product.
By means of the present method of briquetting substantially all the air in the material to be compressed is automatically expelled therefrom togetherwith any air or excess material in the compressing chamber on an operation of the apparatus, the air vents leading from the molding or die chamber being continuously freed of material to prevent cloggin The above objects are accomplish d by means of the apparatus described in the following specification, reference being had to the drawings annexed hereto, in which:

As the present invention relates specifically to a method for relieving the mold cavity of a briquetting apparatus and also. the molding material of any air that maybe entrained therein during a compressing operation, and also to expel any excess molding material not required, I have illustrated only such portions of an apparatus of usual form that directly appertains to my invention.
The apparatus herewith illustrated consists of a frame 5, provided with an elongated horizontally disposed molding cavity or chamber 6 open at either end, a vertically disposed material feeding chute '2' leading from the upper end of the frame and terminating at the rear end of the molding cavity, a material feed hopper 8, bolted to the frame communicating with the upper end of the material feeding chute 7, supplying and controlling the feed of material to the chute. The die plunger 9 is horizontally disposed in line with the molding cavity and is reciprocated back and forth in a mold forming operation by the usual reciprocating mechanism, not shown.
