Description

Filed Feb. 9. 1928 l. A YQUNG l DENTAL HOT AIR BLowER Feb. 5, 1929.
DENTAL HUT-ALTE Bl'iGWER.
Application filed February rlhe invention relates to improvements in dental devices tor discharging a jet ot hetV air, and it aims to provide an exceptionally simple and inexpensive, yet an eiticient reliable device ot thisclass, in Which the heating element is so covered as to prevent burning` the patients inouth.
With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject inoter hereinatter described and claimed, description being` ecconiplished by reference to the accompanying drawing.
Fig. l is a side elevation partly brolfen away and in section showing the invention connected with a hond bulb for Ytorcinp,` air therethrough.
Fig. EZ is a view similar to Fig. l, but shoW- ing,- the iront body section reinoved trom the rear section, exposing the air-heating elenient to permit heating; oit the latter.
Fig 3 is a view similar to Fig. l but showing the device connected with a hose leading troni a compressed air reservoir (not shown) Fig. l is a side elevation partly in section showing a diderent torni of heatingelement.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional vievv partly in elevation of the heating element shown in Fig. d.
I:the drawing above brielly described, illus trates the preferred forni of construction and While this form will be specicelly explained, it is to be understood that Within the scope oi the invention as claimed, variations may be inade.
The numeral l on the drawing denotes a rear, cylindrical, body section having a toinvvardly projecting threaded boss 5 on its front end and a neck t on its rear end, the neck being adapted for connection either with an sir bulb 7 or an air hose S. Body 4 is provided with a central longitudinal bore 9 Which opens both through the boss 5 and the neck (i and has its front portion enlarged and threaded as at l0. Threaded into this enlarged bore portion l() is the reduced rear end portion 1l oi an air-heating element 'l2 of metal or other desired heatebsorbing inaterial, said element l2 being oi cylindrical 'forni and having an air-heating bore 13 troni end to end, communicating), with the bore 9.
fr Yiront, cylindrical, body section 14 is detachably connected With the rear body sec- 9, 1928. Serial No. 253,08*?.
tion 4, being' provided with a longitudinal bore l5 Which receives the heating; element l2 and is enlaroed and threaded at its rear end as denoted at lo, snugly and removably receiving the boss 5. The iront portion l?" of the bore l5 is reduced, and in it, an air-discharge nozzle 18 is fitted.
ln Figs. and 5, the heater l2 embodies a cylindrical body i9 reduced and threaded et one end as at 20 for reception in the iront end ot the bore 9, said body having e helical groove 2l in its periphery, and a port 22 for conducting` air to said groove from the bore 9, said groove opening through the front end of the body. Tightly surrounding this body 19 is a tube 23 Whiii spans the groove 2l and iornis with the latter an air heating port.
lhen the front body section le is removed, the element l2 or l2n4 is exposed for heating with a tierno. Upon re-application of the front section ld, and passage of air through the port 9 and the communicating ports, either from the bulb 7 or the hose 8, this air is heeted by contact with the element 12, giving,y a discharge of tvarin air at the nozzle 18. ln some instances, an element such as l2 or l2 might be provided, having; electrical heating means, but either element herein disclosed will retain heat for a suiiicient time to citeetively perform dental operations in connection with which the instrument is used, and it Will be observed that said element is so covered as to prevent burning the patients mouth.
` l claim:
l. A dental hot air blower comprising a rear cylindrical body section having` a longi tudinel air passage Jfrom end to end, an airheatingelernent carried by the front end of said body section and having; an air-heating port troni end to end communicating with the aforesaid bore, and a front cylindrical body section detachably connected With said rear section and having` a bore receivingsaid heating element, the front end oi seid front body section being;` provided with an air discharge nozzle communicating with the bore ot said front section.
2. i dental hot air blower coinprisng a rear cylindrical body section havinge forwardly projecting boss on its iront end, rearwardly projecting,l necli: on its rear end, end a central ably receiving said boss and said air-heating element, the front end of said front section having a discharge nozzle communicating with the front end of the last named bore.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signa-ture.
LUTHER ALVIN YOUNG.
