Description

Jan 29, 1929.
A. L. HOPKINS FISH CREEL OR BASKET Filed Jan. 6 1928 may a:
Patented Jan. 29, 1929.
UNI-TE. STATES ANNA Il- HOPKINS, OF-'NEW"YORK; NL Y1" FISH CREEL OR BASKET.
Application filed January The object of this invention is to provide a new and improved fishing creel or basket.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an improved device of this character which can be packed or carried in flat or closely folded form and which can be read ily transformed into basket form for use. By making the structure in this way, the same can be readily washed after using it. No lining is necessary, as the entire article can be opened out flat and thoroughly cleaned, and all odors eliminated.
The device is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a plan of the device laid out fiat;
Fig. 2 shows the same partially closed;
Fig. 3 shows the same in completed or operative form;
Fig. 4 is a side View, looking in the direction of the arrow 41 in Fig. 3; and 7 Figs. 5, 6 and 7 are enlarged sectional views, taken on the lines 55, 66 and 7-7 of Fig. 1, and illustrating details of con struction.
Referring to the drawing, and in detail, as shown in Fig. 1 the basket comprises a bottom member A, a back member B, a front member C and a cover member D. The members A, B and C are provided with folding portions or flaps aa, b o and co as illustrated. The members A, B and C and the folding portions aa, Z)b and c-,c are provided with eyelets and snaps so that when the parts are folded together in the direction of the arrows shown in Fig. 1, the complete basket will be formed or set up as illustrated in Fig. 2.
The cover portion D is provided with an opening E for the fish and also with eyelets and snaps so that when swung down in the direction of the arrow shown in Fig. 2, the complete basket as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 will be formed. Straps having a ring 10 and a snap-hook 11 are fastened to the back portion B, which straps can be passed around the body when the device is to be used.
in order to make the basket substantial, stiffening strips of thin metal 12 are provided around the main portions of the members A, B and C and across the cover member D. The basket is preferably made of some woven material as basket-work or canvas and these thin strips 12 are placed around the edges. Tapes 13 are stitched to the woven material on each side of the strips to hold them in place, as shown in Fig. 5.
s, 1928. wa No. 244,958.
Stripsbf binding material 14 are also sewed to the woven material forming the basket along the edges of the folding portions aa,
7)-b and cc as illustrated in Fig. 6.
An additional strip of tape 15 may be stitched to the woven material around the bottom portion A on the opposite side relatively to the tape 13, forming a finish for the outside of the basket, as well as providing additional strength for the basket.
In setting the basket up from flat form, the snaps f and f, g and g, h and h, and i and i, are first secured together, locking the flaps aa to the flaps b?). The snaps and j, 70 and 70, Z and Z, and m and m are then snapped. together, securing one flap b to its flap 0. The snaps n and n, 0 and 0, p and p and g and g are then snapped together, securing the other flap Z) to its flap 0 and holding the basket in form.
Then the snaps r and r and s and s on the cover D and'the side C are snapped together to partially secure the cover, and finally the snaps t and and u and u are fastened together to lock the cover D to the side C.. By this arrangement the basket can be very quickly set up or assembled for the purposes described.
The details and arrangements herein shown and described may be greatly varied by a skilled mechanic without departing from the scope of the invention as expressed in the claims.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to obtain by Letters Patent is 1. A one-piece folding fish basket or creel, comprising back, bottom and front members foldably connected, each having side members connected thereto, and means to detachably secure said partstogether for the purpose described.
2. A one-piece folding fish basket or creel, comprising hack, bottom and front nicn'ibcrs, each of said members having end members attached thereto, and a top member, all. of said members being foldably connected, and means to detachably secure said parts together for the purpose described.
8. A one-piece fish basket or creel comprising members made of woven material and foldably connected, means for detachably securing the members together, and reinforcing metallic strips secured around the meeting edges of the members, thereby to reinforce the edges and folds.
l. A one-piece fish basket or creel comprising members made of Woven material and toldahly connected, means for detachably se curing the members together, reinforcing metallic strips secured around the meeting edges of the members, and strips of tape secured around the Outside edges of the members, thereby to reinforce the edges and folds.
5. A one-piece folding fish basket or creel,
comprising back, bottom and front members toldably connected, each having side members connected thereto, and means to detachably secure said parts together for the purpose described, said means comprising snap fasteners spaced along the edges of said members.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto afiixed my signature.
ANN A L. HOPKlNS.
