The shaft is adapted to extend int-o the gear 18 and into a suitable socket bearing or sleeve 19 bolted or otherwise fastened as indicated at 2O to the top 10, and may be secured in position by a set screw 21 passing through the hub of the gear 18, or as distinguished from the structure shown in Fig ures l, 2 and 9, and as shown more particularly in Figure of the drawing, the shaft or rod 16 may have a socket 22 in its lower end formed with a diametrical slot 23 so as to engage the upper end of a shaft 24 secured by a set screw 25 to the gear 18 through the hub or sleeve thereof and set upon a diamet rical cross pin 26 with its ends projecting into the slot 23 so that the object 17 will be rotated, but may be readily displaced if desired.

The lower portion of the device, that is between the base 1 and the pan 6 constit-utes a display compartment including a frame having upper and lower grooved members 27 and 28 adapted to receive glass or other panels 29 25 of a translucent or transparent nature or otherwise, upon which suitable wording may be printed or painted to advertise the goods.

One side is provided with guideways at the top. and bottom as indicated at 30 to take a 3'0 removable panel 31 constituting a door for obtaining access to the interior compartment.

To reinforce the corners of the bottom com partment I provide angle iron braces or cor ner pieces 32 having screws or other securing means 33 extending therethrough into the uprights and securing the panels in position. Any suitable number of electric lamps 34 may be arranged upon the base within the bottom compartmentfor illuminating` the advertising matter upon the translucent or other panels 29.

In addition, lamps 35 are vsuspended from the portion 10 of the top or cover member 9 as indicated at 36 and a suitable angle brace 37 may be provided in the form of a metal strip reinforcing the members 11 and 12, to which the latter parts are secured. This is effected by connecting to the rings 44 and 45, a suitable pump, preferably a rotary pump 47 arranged in the basin compartment beneath the pan 5 and connected to a motor 48 which may be suitably suspended or supported in the base compartment or upon the base 1 so as to drive the pump. It has a drain 49 and an outlet 50 discharging into the outer ring, from which leads a branch 51 extending to the inner ring by a coupling or connection 52, the inlet being controlled in each instance by a valve 53 so that the strength of the supply and streams may be readily controlled before entering the rings and being discharged from the nozzles 46 heretofore described. The water playing upon the bowl or ornamental member designated as a cone, re turns to the pan 5, from which it is returned through the outlet 54 to the pump, for which it constitutes an inlet. By this means, a quantity of water may be placed in the pan and continuously circulated, thereby requiring no consumption of water from the main except that which is in the pan. This naturally does away with pipe connections to the main. The operation of the motor is controlled by a resistance element or rheostat 55 also mounted in the base compartment and like the motor and pump, shown suspended from the pan 5, so as to place suitable resistance in the circuit. This is controlled by an adjustable contact member 56 arranged on a bar 57 suspended by hangers 58 shown in the form of a U-shaped bracket attached to the bottom of the pan 5. The windings on the resistance or rheostat 55 engaged by the contact member 59 of course, constitute a variable resistance in the circuit. This contact member is preferably in the form of a forli with a roller constituting the contact member 59 journaled therein, as indicated at 60 in Figure 8 of the drawing. Screws 61 serve to secure the bar 57 in position so as to permit convenient disassemblage or detachment and disconnection of the parts.

The circuit arrangement including the lamps is designated in Figure 11, in which an ordinary plug 62 for plugging in the light socket of a house Wiring is shown, from which lead the conductors 63 and 64 in which the lamps 34 are interposed. The wires then lead to the motor 13 and then to the lamp 7 and also to the lamp 35 through the branch conductors 65 and 66 Branch conductors 67 and 68 lead from the conductors 63 and 64 through a conductor 68 to the variable resistance 55 and through a conductor 69 to the motor 48 from one contact of which a conductor 7,0 leads through theY movable contact dheretpfore described. From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have provided a very attractive sign and advertising display device or fountain, which cany be effectively used for advertising purposes, can be economically manufactured and Which is not likely to get out of Working order.

Vhile I have described my invention and shown the device in the preferred form, it is to be understood that various modifications and changes in the form, arrangement and construction as Well as the proportion of the parts may be made Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

What I claim is: Y

In an advertising and display device, a frame including a base member, uprights thereon, a fountain pan supported Within the frame having sprays mounted therein, a central illuminated globe, means for circulating the Water from within the pan over vthe globe, the portion of the frame beneath the pan being enclosed by panels housing the circulating means, illuminating devices in the base compartment beneath the pan enclosed by the panels, illuminating devices supported on the uprights, a cover arranged on the uprights, illuminating devices arranged beneath the cover, and a rotatable displaying device operable in the circuit With the lamps above the cover.

2. In an advertising and display device, a frame including a base member, uprights thereon, a fountain pan supported Within the frame having sprays mounted therein, a central illuminated globe, means for circulating the Water from Within the pan over the globe, the portion of the frame beneath the pan being enclosed by panels housing the circulating means, illuminating devices in the base compartment beneath the pan enclosed by the panels, illuminating devices supported on the uprights, a cover arranged on the uprights, illuminating devices arranged beneath the cover, a box arranged upon the cover, a motor therein driven in the circuit with the lamps, and an ornamental object operatively connected to and extending above the motor box to be driven by the motor.

6. In an advertising and display device, a frame including a base member, a. fountain pan supported Within the frame and having Sprays mounted therein, a partition within the pan and dividing the central portion thereof from the outer portion, a globe sup* ported on and around the upper portion of the partition, illuminating means supported en the pan within the partition and under the globe for illuminating the latter, means for circulating fluid from within the pan over the globe, illuminating sign panels beneath the pan and enclosing the circulating means, a cover supported in spacedrelation above the pan and globe, and illuminating devices beneath the cover to direct light rays downwardly on to the pan, globe and fluid circulated over the globe.

7. In an advertising and display device, a frame including a base member, a fountain pan supported within the frame and having sprays mounted therein, a partition within the pan dividing the central portion thereof from the outer portion, a globe supported on and around the upper portion of the partition, illuminating means supported on the pan Within the partition and under the globe for illuminating the latter, means for circulating fluid from within the pan over the globe, illuminated sign panels beneath the pan and enclosing the circulating means, a cover supported in spaced relation above the pan and globe, illuminating devices on the cover for directing light rays upwardly, and a movable advertising device supported on the cover and illuminated by said last-mentioned illuminating devices, said advertising device being in circuit with the illuminating devices and circulating means.

S. In an advertising and display device, a frame including a base member, an illuminated member supported centrally over the base member, means for circulating fluid in streams upwardly against and over the illuminated member, a cover on the frame, a compartment on the cover, illuminating devices above and below the cover, a motor WILLIAM n.
