Description

March 10, 1931. F. M. GREENWOOD COMBINED LICENSE CARRIER AND KEY RING Filed Oct. 29, 1928 Patented Mar. 10, 1931 PATENT OFFICE FRED M.'GREENWOOD, OF ST. JOHNS, MICHIGAN COMBINED LICENSE CARRIER AND KEY RING Application filed October 29, 1928. Serial No. 315,782.
This invention relates to combined license carriers and key rings, and has for its object the production of a device that may be conveniently placed in the pocket, and which by means of parts of special construction and arrangement will serve to hold a number of keys, a lead pencil or the like, and an automobile license or any similar'foldable paper.
It is also an object to fashion the article in such manner that the keys may be used without opening the container or carrier portion of the invention.
Of the accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 illustrates a vertical section showing all parts assembled, and Fig. 2 is a view thereof from above.
Throughout the drawings and description the same number is used to refer to the same part.
Considering the drawings, a closed bottom container 1 may be of any form or suitable size, made of metal or of hard rubber or bakelite. The container has a closure 2 constructed toengage the open mouth of the container when the closure is in its closing position. As shown, the closure fits the mouth of the container closely but in detachable relation, and it is believed to be within the scope of this invention to removably secure the closure by means of any device commonly employed for like purpose.
Mounted upon the closure 2 is a key ring or hook 4, and this feature may be of any desired shape or size. It will be observed in Fig. 1 that the end of the key ring 4 is bent towards the container and is in proximity with the edge of the mouth of the container when the closure is in place.
A key 6 is shown held by the part 4.
In the top of the closure 2 is formed a recess 5, and on the under side of the closure is a clip 7 and a tubular socket 8 for frictionally holding a lead pencil or the like marked 9. The clip engages the inner portion of an auto license 10 wound upon the pencil and located in the container 1. The clip 7 is not essential, but serves to keep the windings of the license in place. It will be understood that the license 10 may be simply wound into a roll and placed in the container independent of the pencil.
In the operation of this invention, assume that the closure 2 be withdrawn from the position in the mouth of the container where in it is shown in Fig. 1. Then, the entrance into the recess 5 will permit the open end of the key ring to be inserted into the eye of the key 6. \Vhen the closure is again inserted into the mouth of the container 1, the end of the key ring 4 is brought into such proximity with the edge of the container wall, that the key cannot drop off the ring. But, the key 6 may readily be used as a key to unlock any suitable look without withdrawing the closure from the container. The exterior of the container as well as its shape may be ornamental in character if desired.
Having now described this invention and explained the manner of its use, I claim 1. In a combined license carrier and key hook, a container provided with a closure having a key hook mounted thereon, the said closure having a recess adjacent to the end of said hook forming an opening between the end of the hook and the closure for the entrance of the end of the key whereby said hook may be inserted into the eye of a key, and the said closure being movable to bring the hook end into such proximity with the container that the opening into said recess is closed and the key retained on said hook.
2. In a combined license carrier and key hook, a container provided with a closure having a key hook mounted thereon, the end of said hook and the said closure being spaced apart whereby said hook may be inserted into the eye of a key, and the said closure being movable to bring the hook end into such proximity with the container that the said space between the hook end and closure is obstructed and the key retained on said hook.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
FRED M. GREENWOOD.
