IMPROVEMENT lN CONSTRUCTION OF SHIP S, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. FY3306, dated June 27, 1876; application filed April 25, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Beit known thatl, JULEs A. DHEMEOOURT, of New Orleans, parish of Orleans, Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Construction of Ships and Boats, of which the foliowin g is a specification The object of my invention is to contrive the construction of boats andships, whether great or small, without the knees or ribs now employed, to secure greater lightness, elegance, and simplicity.
In carrying out the invention the plan-king is tongued and grooved, and secured by wires running through widthwise in the case of small boats. The wires will be pulled taut, and soldered to metal plates fitted to the rim, and the flat bars will be flanged or bent over at the top, and secured in any approved Way.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a boat with parts broken out, showing the disposition of the wires. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the boat.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre-' sponding parts.
A represents the planking of the boat, the several pieces .of which are tongued and grooved together, and B represents the wires with which they are secured, the wires being inserted in holes with which the planking is perforated widthwise in any suitable way, and at the rims they are soldered to a washer, G, on the metal support, to keep them tight. Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The tongued and grooved planking A, secured on a ship or boat by .wires B,substa11- tially as and for the purpose specified.
