HENRY E. GREEN, 0E oHEToPAH, KANsAs.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-DRIERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,298, dated June 27, 1876; application filed June 21, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, H. F. GREEN, of Chetopah, in the county of Labette and in the State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Driers; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
rIhe nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a clothesrack, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains t0 make and use thev same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in whieh- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my clothesrack. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a bottom view of one of the castings.
A represents a board of suitable dimensions forming the back of my clOthesrack, and in the said board are two round holes, e a, with a short vertical slot, a', extending upward from the same, to be hung upon nails in any place on the walls where desired. To the back A are secured three castings, B, C, and D. The top casting B `consists in a semicircular horizontal plate provided along its straight edge with an upwardly-projecting flange, b, in which are screw-holes for attachment to the board A.
From the outer edge of the plate extend curved ribs or arms d d at suitable distances apart, somewhat in basket form, and the outer ends of said ribs or arms connected by a rim, e. The casting C is constructed in precisely the saine manner, with the addition Of an upwardly-projecting ange, t', around the circumference, making this casting somewhat in the form of a cup. The casting D is simply a semicircular cup attached to the lower end of the board.
The curved arms d of the castings B and C are provided on their under sides at the upper ends with strengthening ribs or projections h,
vas shown in Fig. 3, and by dotted lilies in Fig. 2, which lessens their liability of breaking.
In each of the castings B and C are placed a series ot' arms, upon which the clothes are to be hung. G G represent the upper series, and G G the lower series. The arms G are passed between the arms d ofthe casting B, and when not in use their lower ends rest in the cup of the middle casting O. When one or more of these arms are to be used they are drawn upward until they can be turned down in a horizontal position, when their inner ends bear against the under side of the casting, and the arms rest on the rim e. rllhe strengthening-ribs h then act as guides also for -the inner ends of the arms, to prevent any side motion of them. In like manner the arms G are held by the casting (l, and when not in use their lower ends rest in' the cup D.
The arms can at any time be removed from the castings When necessary for cleaning or` other purposes, and the entire clothes-rack can easily be shifted from one place' to another, as
may be required.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by 1. A clothes-rack, composed of the board or back A, the castings B, G, and D fastened thereto, and the two sets of arms G G and G' G', all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The casting B, constructed, as described, of a semicircular plate with Hange b, arms d, rim e, and strengthening-ribs h, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. The castings C, having rim e, arms d, flange b, and ange t', the latter surrounding the casting G, and the whole being cast in one piece, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of June, 1876.
HENRY F. GREEN.
