2 Sheets-Sheet l A By In venior HHIIIIII Attorney RADIOCABINET Filed Feb. 21. 1930 2 Shuts-Sheet 2 A-Jm Inventor A iiomey Patented Feb. 10, 1931 UNITED STATES JULIA A. STANGEB, OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK RADIOOABINET Application filed February 21, 1980. Serial No. 480,351.
The present invention relates to a radio cabinet and has for its prime object to provide a decorated panel therein with means associated therewith so that the panel will 5 be shown in difierent colors.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a cabinet of this nature including a tuning dial having associated therewith which will cast differ- 1 cut colored lights on a decorative panel as the dial is turned and tuned.
With the above and numerous other ob jects in view as will appear as the description roceeds, the invention resides in certain 15 move features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawin Figure 1 is a ront elevation of a cabinet embodying the features of my invention,
Figure 2 is a vertical section therethrough taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1 Figure 3 is a vertical section taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1,
F igure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 3, i F1 re 5 is a sectional view taken substan- 80 tially on the line 5-5 of Figure 2, and
Figure 6 is an elevation of the tuning dial. Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the letter C denotes a cabinet which may be of any desired shape or formation except for the particular'features hereinafter pointed out. The front wall 7 of the cabinet C has a translucent panel 9 mounted therein of a decorative nature as is clearly illustrated in Figure 1. 40 A wall 10 extends down from the top of the cabinet to the rear of the panel 9 and has a bottom 11 extending across to the front wall 7. A partially c lindrical case 12 is fixed to the wall 7 imme iately below the panel 9 in 45 the compartment formed by the wall 10, said compartment being noted by the letter A and this case 12 has an opening in the front side thereof registering with an opening 14 in the wall 7 and is also provided in the top portion with an opening 15.
A d1sk'19 is mounted on the shaft and has i a drum 20 of transparent material mounted thereon. This drum 20 adjacent the disk has marked thereon suitable indicia 21 for tuning purposes, said indicia being visible through the opening 14 and it is through this opening 14 the drum is turned for tuning the radio receiving set.
Strips of different colors are provided on the drum 20'to extend longitudinally thereof clearly illustrated in Figure 6. An electric light 25 is mounted on a bracket 26 which extends into the drum 20 and is anchored on the wall 7. It will therefore be seen that whenever the set is turned different rays of light will be projected up through the opening 15 for the purpose of illuminating the panel 9 in different colors.
A screen B may be mounted in an opening 30 formed in the lower portion of the Wall 7 for the loud speaker. If desired in the upper portion of the compartment A there may be mounted a motor 31. A gear 32 meshes with a pinion 33 on the armature shaft of the motor. A drum 21 of transparent material is mounted on the gear having different stripes of colors thereon similar to drum 20 and a light 25 is mounted on the wall 7 extending into the drum 21'. Therefore when the motor 31 is energized different colors'will be reflected on to the panel 9 in an intermittent manner.
The gear 32 is rotatable on a shaft 35 mounted in the walls 7 and 10. An arcuate bracket 36 extends circumjacent the drum under the same and has arms 37 anchored to the wall 7.
It is thought that the construction, opera tion, effects and advantages of the invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof..
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since 1n actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is: I y
In combination with a cabinet includi a wall havin a translucent decorative pan therein, a rum of transparent material, means for rotatably mounting'the drum, and means for illuminating the drum so that light may be reflected therethrough on to the panel, said drum having stripes of different colors thereon, said drum having an annular series of indicia, said wall having an opening throu h which the indicia is visible and accessibfe for turning the drum, a shaft operatively connected with the drum for turning a radio receiving set in the cabinet.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JULIA A. STANGER.
