My invention relates particularly to de' vices of the character set forth in my Patent 1,617,917 and myapplication179.,307, filed March 29, 1927, of which latter application this present application is a continuation in part. 7v
The principal object of my presentinvention is'to simplify and cheapen the construction. I In its preferred form the casing is provided with a readily detachable front to facilitate'access andthe insertion and removal of compressible tubes. The compressing jaws are carried by a slide which is guided in the casing, the latter being provided with integral flanges which serve as the guides. The jaws are operated by swinging bars which are so constructed and arranged that the finger levers may be connected directly to the box. The tube is inserted between the jaws and has its nozzle or neck mounted in the bottom of the casing and closed by suit able means such as a spring pressed valve. Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one form of device involving my invention.

The slide 14 carries the pivotal jaws 15 which are adapted to embrace'the opposite sides ofthe tube 16 as shown in Fig. K The slide is U-shaped in plan view and the side arms 17 fit the sides of the casing behind the flanges 11. Thus the walls and flanges of the casing form the guiding and supporting means for the slide 14. v The bowed spring-18 has its ends 19 engaged in recess or holes in the -lower edges of the jaws so as to tend to spread the jaws apart, as shown in Figs. 4 and5. The bars 20 are provided'with upper and lower pivot studs 21 and 22 which engage'in the top and 6 bottom plates 12 and 13. Finger levers 23 are secured directly to the upper ends of the bars 20 in any suitablemanner. The pressure of the spring 18 tends toopen up the. jaws and to'press the'bars 20 against the 7 flanges 11 when the parts are in the normal position of rest.

The closure 28 fits into'the neck or nozzle of thetube' so as to normally keep it closed. This closure is carried by a finger lever29 which is pivoted at 30, The angular hub 31 is kept under pressureof the leaf s'pring 32 which tends to holdit in the closed position shown in full lines in Fig. 6 or in the dotted InFig. 8 I have shown a modified form of 34. mounted on the upright rod 35. This spring tends t'okeepthe closure tight on its 0 seat. A finger piece 36may be provided to facilitatelowering the closure 33 and turning itto one side so asto admit the brush to the outlet of the tube.
To operate the device the neck of thetube 95 is'inserted in the mouth 25 and clamped in place by the screw 27, the upper end of the tube being inserted between the jaws 15 which are in their spread apart position. The

When it is desired to use the tube the closure 28 is dropped away from the outlet and the finger levers,23 are pressed toward each other by the operator. pressure is transmitted through the bars 20 and through the outerlower edges of the jaws 15 which are thus pressed downwardly against the sides of the tube causing some of the contents to be ejected.
The teeth 37 tend to bite into the walls of the tube and press'downward ly When the pressure on the finger leversis released the spring 18 returns the parts totheir normal position. The weight Ofthe slide and jaws is sufi icien't to cause them to feed downwardly slightly each time the tube has been compressed andthe finger levers released.
The front or cover plate 38 has top and bottom flanges 39 and/l0 which overlap the top and bottom plates of the casing. The sides are provided withinwardlypressed bosses 41 which are adapted to snap into recesses in the sides of the body of the casing to yieldingly hold the parts together. The upper end of the front is provided with slots or openings 41 for the finger levers.
It should be understood that various changes in construction may be made with out departing from the spirit or scope of my invention.
I claim: 7
1. A tube press, comprising a casing having side walls with inturned guide flanges, a slide guided in said casing by said flanges, jaws pivoted to said guide, operating bars pivoted in the upper and lower ends of the casing, externally accessible operating means including finger levers and a removable front plate having top and bottom flanges co-acting with the upper and lower ends of the casing, said removable cover plate having flanges provided with an interlocking engagement with the sides of the casing.
2. A tube press, comprising a casing having side walls, a slide guided in said casing, spaced jaws pivoted to said slide, swinging bars pivoted in the casing, externally accessibleoperating means including finger levers secured to said bars, and a removable cover plate having flanges with an interlocking engagement with the sides of the casing.
3. A tube press, comprising a casinghaving side walls with guide flanges, a slide guided in said casing by said walls and flanges, .j aws pivoted to said guide, operating bars coacting with said jaws, externally accessible operating means for said bars including finger levers and a removable front plate having top and bottom flanges co-acting with the upper and lower ends of the casing.
4:. A tube press, comprising a casing having side walls with inturned guide flanges, a slide guided in said casing by said walls and flanges, jaws pivoted to said guide, operating bars pivoted in the upper and lower This ends of the casing, and engaging said jaws and externally accessible operating means including finger levers connected to said bars.
5. A tube press comprising a casing having a means for supporting a compressible tube, a slide guided by the inner walls of the casing, tube compressing jaws hinged to said slide and movable therewith, a single spring carried by said jaws for normally separating the same and manually operable means for operating said jaws.
6. A tube press comprising a casing, a slide guided' 'intlie casing, movable jaws car- 'iedby said slide and adapted ,to compress a tube, ope'r'atingbars co-acting with said jaws to compress the tube, and finger levers secured to the bars for operating said bars.
7. A tube press comprising a casing having a recess and a clamp screw for supporting a compressible tube, a slide guided by, the inner walls of the casing, tube compressing jaws hinged to said slide and movable therewith, bars for operating said jaws .swingingly mounted in the casing and adapted to en,- gage the jaws upon movement and means for manually operating said bars.
8. A tube press comprising acasing, a slide guided in the casing, a pair of jaws hinged to said slide 'and adapted to compress a tube, bars hingedly mounted in said casing at opposite sides thereof co-acting with said jaws to compress the tube, and finger levers secured to said bars for operating said bars.
9. A tube press-comprising a casing, means formed at one end of said casing for supporting a tube therein in upright position, means for compressing said tube slidably mounted in said casing, means for manually operating said compressing means and a single means for automatically retracting said compressing means and operating means to inoperative positions upon the'release of pressure upon said manually operated means.
10. A tube press comprising a casing adapted to support a tube therein, a pair of oppositely disposed jaws slidably mounted in said casing and adapted to compress said tube, means formed on said casing for guiding said jaws in their sliding movement, means for manually operating said compressing jaws and a single means for automatically retracting said jaws away from said tube andsaid manually operated means away from said jaws. 11. A tube press comprising a casing adapted to support a tube therein, a pair of oppositely disposed aws pivotally' and slidably mounted in said casing andadapted to compress said tube, means formed on said casing for guiding said jaws in their sliding movement, bars pivotally mounted in said casing and adapted to engage said jaws upon rotation of said bars, levers fixed to said bars and extending exteriorly of said casing for manually operating said bars and common means for automatically retracting said jaws away from said tube and said levers away from said jaws upon the release of pressure from said bars.
12. A tube press comprising a casing adapted to support a tube therein, a pair of oppositely disposed jaws pivotally and slidably mounted in said casing and adapted to compress said tube, means formed in said casing V for uidin said 'aws 1n their slldln movement, bars pivotally mounted in said casing and adapted to engage said jaws upon rotation of said bars, levers fixed to said bars said jaws together to bring said toothed and cam surfaces to bear gradually upon the opposite sides of a tube.
14. A tube presser comprising a casing having an outlet at one end, means for supporting a tube in the casing with its nozzle at said outlet, a slide, means for guiding said slide in the vcasing, a pair of jaws pivotally carried by said slide and having surfaces for engaging and squeezing a tube between them and having arms, bars'pivoted in the ends of the casing and extending longitudinally of the casing and having edges for pressing against the arms of the jaws, and finger levers connected to said bars and having portions extending outside of the casing for actuating the bars to move the jaws and compress the tube.
