Description

J. McLAIN.
JAR-LIFTER.
No. 178.655. P atented-J1ine13,1876;
PETERS, PROw-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON n c ATENT JOHN MOLAIN, OF ST. MARYS, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO WVILLIAM F. TORRANOE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN JAR-LIFTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,655, dated J une 13, 1876; application filed March 2, 1876.
ing the connections of the several parts coinposing the holder; Fig. 4 showing the position of the holder when applied to a vessel,
also, the position of the fingers of the hand clasping the handle and strap.
The same part of the invention in each fignre is represented by the same letter.
Fig. 1--A, handle, tapered at one end, to be used in holding down the lid or cork while the vessel is being sealed; B, the cap, attached to handle by means of screwthread or otherwise, as seen in Fig. 3; O, leather strap, permanently attached to clasp D in cap B. Said strap encircles the vessel, and is drawn through slot E in clasp D, and held as shown in Fig.4;-
F, screw in end of handle, to which the handguard is attached Fig. 2, hand-guard G, showing the shape of the holes through the leather to receive screw F; Fig. 3, position of cap B on handle A; screw F inserted in handle and guard G. The dotted lines represent strap 0.
In clasping a vessel the greatest pressure against it is at H H. The shapeot' the cap B and the intervening leather strap O and guard Gr prevents the head of screw F from coming in contact with a jarthe whole to be constructed from wood, metal, andleather combined, or from any other suitable materials.
I claim as my invention A jar-lifter consisting of ahandle, A, to which is attached a screw, F, and a cap, B, the cap being provided with a clasp, l), to
one end of which is secured the strap 0 and guard G, reinovably fastened to the screw F, all operating as and for. the purpose set forth.
