lileretofore merchants dealing in lingerie and ladies. dresses have experienced many disadvantages in displaying their goods in their shops and show rooms, chiefly among vw which has been the collecting of dust while the garment was hanging on the displa. r racks, and the soiling from incessant hearing by clerlrs and customers. lit the garments were covered for protection from dust, they did not present an attractive apearance in a show room, and in order to "I. hit the same to a customer, it was necessary to remove the cover and talre the garment from the rack.

After repeating this procedure several no times, it is obvious thatthe arment would soon become soiled from hauling and unfit tor sale at the original price.

It is the object of my invention to overcome these disadvanta es and to produce a garment cover made o tram; arent material the upper portion ot a garment which has heen placed on a hanger ot the conventional type.

By the use of my improved gaentcover, it will be seen that the dresses are protected from dust, and present a uniform appearance throu hout the whole shop or show room, whiledianging upon the dislay raclrs; that the entire dress may he reail viewed by a customer without remog t e cover, and that the garments may be freely haned by the clerks in placing them on and removing them from the display racks, without fear of soiling.

With the above and other objects in viewwhich will appear as the description proceeds,

my invention consists in the novel features herein set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and more particularly pointed out in the appended cl w Referring to the drawings in which numerals of like character desiate similar parts throughout the several views,

lin the drawings, 1 represents my improved garment cover proper which consists of a m sheet of transparent material, preferably glassine paper, folded upon itself to form front and back walls 2 and 3 respectively,

either of said walls being provided along its side edges with flaps i and 5 which are adapted to be folded over and secured to the side edges of the opposite wall, either by pasting, stitching or other suitable means. its will be seen from Figure lot the drawings, the lower edge of the back wall 3 extends below that of the front wall 2; whereby opening of .the mouth is' facilitated.

'lhemodification shown in Fig. 3 comprises an elongated slot 12 in the upper edge of the cover, reinforced by strips of heavy paper 13, pasted or otherwise secured to the walls of said cover, adjacent the edges of said slot. The use of my improved cover is obvious. The device is slipped over a garment 9 on a hanger 8, the head or hook 7 of which is passed through the aperture 6 thus enabling display rack in full view of the customers, yet protected tro dust and soiling from handling. While I have sho and described a garmerit cover of transparent material for covering only the upper portionof a dress, it will be noted that the device may be made of any suitable material, and any desired length.

From the foregoing, it is believed that my I invention may beclearlyj understood without further description, it eing borne in mind that numerous changes may be made in the details of construction Without departing from the spirit of the invention as disclosed in the following claim.

' What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A display device for garments, comprising an inverted protecting bag including unbroken front and rear walls of transparent sheet material, said walls being secured permanently together along the side and top edges, the lower edges forming a permanently open mouth, through which the upper portion of a garment may be inserted for display, the length of said walls being less than that of said garment, and the lower edge of one wall extending below that of the adjacent wall, whereby access to the bag is facilitated,

the upper end of said bag being provided with an aperture to accommodate the hook of a garment hanger, whereby when said device is applied to a garment on display, said garment is visible in its entirety, and the lower portion of the garment is unconfined, thus avoiding creasing or rumpling.
