Description

Dec. 16, 1930. E. PAREDES 1,785,595
MOUTHPIECE FOR PIPES AND CIGAR HOLDERS Filed Sept. 3, 1927 Z. Parades Patented Dec. 16, 1930 EVARISTO PABEDES, EL PASO, TEXAS MOUTHPIECE FOR PIPES AND GIGAR HOLDERS Application filed September 8, 192 7. Serial No. 217,347.
This invention relates to mouthpieces for pipes or cigar holders, and has for its object to provide a mouthpiece for pipes or cigar holders, of such construction as to protect the tongue of the smoker from direct contact with hot smoke, and to form a receptacle to hold the nicotine which may be readily removed for cleaning.
A further object is to provide a mouth piece of the above kind which is simple and inexpensive in construction, and which Wlll prevent entrance of saliva from the mouth of the smoker into the stem of the pipe or cigar holder.
Other objects will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, and the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing, wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a view partly in side elevation 26 and partly in section, of a pipe equipped with a mouthpiece constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary section on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 2, showing a modified form of the invention.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the present invention embodies a nipple composed of a bulbous body portion 5, preferably of somewhat flattened form as shown, and a flexible elastic contracted neck portion 6 adapted to be stretched over the tip 7 of 4 the stem 8 of the pipe or cigar holder, whereby the mouth piece is effectively, but removably held on the tip 7 the body portion 5 having side orifices 9 so located as to prevent direct contact of the hot smoke with the tongue of the smoker. Due to the bulbous flat form of the body portion 5, it will not cause discomfort to the user and will act as a receptacle in which may be placed a suitable body of absorbent material 10, for collection of nicotine.
Further, the flexible nature of the neck 6 enables the body portion 5 to yield relative to the stem 8 to further insure against discomfort to the user.
The neck 6 is preferably formed of soft rubber or like material, and as shown in Fig.
4, the body 5 may be formed of similar material and integral with said neck. However,
as shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, the body 5 may be formed separately from the neck 6, and provided with a contracted open end fitted into an end of the neck, said body being formed of relatively stifl' heatinsulating material, such as pyraline, forbeing readily inserted in or removed from the end of '65 the neck. In this two-part construction, a suitable removable strainer disk 11 may be provided in the open end of the body, the latter having an annular outwardly pressed bead 12 to receive the margin of the strainer disk. The disk 11 may have a pulling or removing tab 13, if desired.
From the above description, it will be seen that the hot smoke passing outwardly through the orifices 9 will be directed laterally so as to not come in direct contact with the smokers tongue, and entrance of saliva from the smokers mouth into the stem of the pipe or cigar holder is highly unlikely.
Minor changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:-
A mouthpiece for pipes or the like, comprising a nipple composed of a bulbous body of stiff material having its forward end open and contracted, and having side orifices, a separate elastic neck member having its for- 9 ward end fitted over the tip of the stem of the pipe, the rear end of the neck member being fitted over the contracted open forward end of the bulbous body, an annular outwardly pressed bead formed in the contracted forward end portion of the bulbous body, and a removable strainer disk for disposition within said bead and adapted to be disposed against the tip of the stem of the pipe.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
' EVARISTO PAREDES.
