Description

Patented Dec. 16, 1930 1 UNITED f STATES PATENT OFFICE 'JAM s cmAY, SOUTH ORANGE, NEwJE sEY, AssIGNo fro THE WHITEHEAD ND HOAG COMPANY, OF E ARK, NEW JERSEY, A; CORPORATION 0E NEW JERSEY BUTTON REoEr'rAcLE Application filed July 16, 1928. Serial No. 293,133.
This invention relates to a newand improved button receptacle. When licenses are issued by States or municipalities for the privilege of conducting certain activities such as hunting and fishing it is frequently a requirement of law that the possessor of the license carry on his person and exposed to View indicia stating the fact that he is a possessor of the required license. He is also required to carry with him the license itself, and the main object of myinvention is to provide a device which may be easily attached to the clothing of the bearer, which can carry on its face any desired indicia and which itself constitutes a convenient receptacle in which a license may be carried.
Another object is to produce a device of this character in a cheaper and better way than has hitherto been possible.
Other objects and advantages relate to the size, shape and arrangementof parts all as will more fully appear from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which 2 Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation of my device.
Figure 3 is a section on line 33 of Figure 1. I
Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Figare 1.
Figure 5 is a section on line 5-5 of Figure 3. 1
My device consists of a front plate 1 having a rearwardly and inwardly extending annular flange and adapted tobe covered by a sheet of celluloid or other appropriate material -2 upon which may be placed i any desired indicia. The sheet '2, as per- .haps may best be seen at 'a in Figure 3, is return bent on its edge to enclose the annular flange of front plate 1 and is confined between the annular flange of. front plate 1 and the outer edge of a back plate 3 Back plate 3 is dish shaped having a forwardly and outwardly extendlng annular flange 4 adapted to coact with the annular flange of front plate 1 to confine the sheet -2 in position.
Back plate 3 has opposed slots 5 0 and -6-.-. pin -7.- hasan-oppositely deflected portion 8' positioned in a groove 8 in the front surface of back plate 3 having one end extending through slot -6 and formed into a coil 9- from which extends the pin portion 10 to engage a loop 11 formed upon the opposite end of portion 8-. Loop '--11- extends outwardly through slot 5. A lug 12-' is formed from a portion of back plate -3- and is return bent on back plate -3 to restfagainst portion 8 of pin -7 to .hold pin- 7. in position. A pair of looking lugs 13 and -'14' are formed in back plate -3- and are return bent to eng'age lug 12 to hold the same in position. An aperture 15- is formed in back plate -3 adjacent the lower edge thereof.
When the device is in use the license which is to be carried is folded to theproper size andfthen is inserted between front plate 1 and back plate -3 through the opening 16 which was formedwhen the lug 1-2 was return bent on back plate -3. When it is desired to remove the license the same is easily accomplished by inserting a finger in aperture 15 and pushing the license upwardly and out through opening ,.16. Aperture 15 also serves the purpose of permitting the escape of any moisture which may enter opening 16.
The pin 7 formsa convenient means of attaching the device to the clothing of the bearer. p I
,Itwill be understood that the exact size and position of lugs 12, 13 and 14:.may be varied as desired as may the size of aperture 15 and opening 16. It will also be understood that the devicev may, if desired, be constructed in shapes other than the circular shape here illustrated, for although I have shown and vdescribed a specific structure and form of part as an exemplification of an embodiment of my invention I do not desire to restrict myself to the exact size, shape or relation of parts as various changes may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, a front plate, a back plate connected and having its central portion in spaced relation thereto to form a pocket, a fastening means positioned in the back plate, an aperture through the back plate communicating with the pocket to permit the introduction of an article therein, a portion of the back plate return bent on itselfto hold the fastening means in position, and additional portions of the back plate return bent to hold in position the first mentioned return bent portion.
2. In a device of the class described, a front plate, indicia carrying material positioned on one face of the front plate, abackplate having its central portion in spaced relation to the front plate to form a pocket, the edge of said indicia carrying material being positionedibetween the front plate and the back plate, a fastening means positioned on the back plate, an aperture in the back plate communicating with the pocket to permit the introduction of an article therein, said back plate having a portion return bentto hold the fastening means in position.
