AIR COMPRESSING COUPLING FOR ENGINE CYLINDERS Filed June 27, 1928 Inventor m Patented Nov. 25,19 .01,
UNITED STATES IJ'OHYN nnennn, F mailingmmune AIR-COMPRESSING courmivearonmneinnoynmnnns Application filed June, 27,
The present invention relates to attachmentsfor internal combustion engines and has forits principal object .to provide a coupling adapted for attachment to the cylinder 5 of an engine for connecting the same with a compressed air tank, whereby to utilize the compression of the engine cylinder for compressing a supply of air in said tank;
A. further object of the invention is to providean attachment of this character adapted for fitting in the spark plug opening communicating with the cylinder and also pro- Viding a connection for the spark plug so as e to permit the firing of the cylinder in the p usual manner. I I A V i A further object is to provide a cut-off means between the cylinder and the compressed air tank and the sparkplug, so that either the tank or the spark plug may be cut i when desired; a i i An additional object is to provide an attachment of this character of a simple and practical construction, which may be easily and quickly installed in operative position without necessitating any changes or alterations in the construction of the engine, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purpose for which the same is intended. 7
Other objects and advantages reside in the specialconstruction and combination of the various elements comprising the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, and wherein: A
Figure 1 is a side elevational view showing i the coupling with a spark plug mounted in position therein, and i "F Figure 2 is a vertical sectional View there through. Referring now to the drawing in detail, the invention comprises a coupling composed of a body portion 5, provided at one end with an externally threaded nipple 6, adapted for threaded insertion in the spark plug opening of the cylinder of an internal combustion engine, and having its opposite end internally threaded for mounting the spark plug 7 in position therein. From one side of off from communication with the cylinder r8i;;2 s,a1. Itwjill thus be a vehicle, together with the engine for agricultural or horticultural purposes.
It is obvious that the invention is susceptible of various changes and modifications, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages, and I accordingly claim all such forms of thedevice to which I am entitled.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. An attachment for engine cylinders comprising a hollow body having a threaded nipple formed on .one. end. adapted-Jfor threaded engagement with the spark plug opening of the cylinder and having its oppositeend arranged for threadably receiving the sparkplug whereby to provide communication between the cylinder and the spark plug through the body, a feed pipe extending laterally from oneside of the body, and a valve operatively arranged in the body and adapted for selectively controlling communication with the cylinder of eitherthe spark plug or the feed pipe.
2. .An attachment for engine cylinders comprising a hollow body having a threaded nipple formed on one end adapted for threaded engagement with the spark plug opening of the cylinder and having its opposite end arranged for threadably receiving the spark plug whereby to provide communication between the; cylinder and the spark plug through the body, afeed pipe extending laterally from one side of the body, a valve operativelyiarranged in the body and positioned between the spark plug and the cylinder attached end ofthebody forcselectively controlling communication between either the spark plug orv saidifeed pipe with the cylinder, said valve havingione end-extending outwardly of the body, and an operating lever attached thereto.
3. An attachment ,for engine cylinders comprising a hollow body havin ga threaded nipple formed on one endwadapted for threaded engagement with the spark plug opening of-the cylinder and having its oppositeend arranged for threadablyreceiving the spark plug whereby to provide communicationbetween the cylinder and the spark plug through the body, a feed pipewextendinglaterally, from one sideofthe body,,and a valve operativelyarranged in the body and adapted for selectively controllingcommunication between eitherv the spark plug or said feed pipe with the cylinder, said valve having one end exten ing outwardly of the body, an operating lever attached thereto and an extension formed on said leverand engageable with a stationary part of the device whereby to forma stop for indicating one position of the valve.
In testimony whereof I afliX my, signature.
