Description

Nov. '11, 1930. s. BoRGNls 1,781,431
GARTER GRI P Filed May 2l, 1930 l l Ogg forming a part of this application, in
Patented Nov. 11, 1930 SAMSON BORG-NIS, 0F OLNEY, PENNSYLVANIA GARTER GrRILD Application filed May 21,
My invention relates to new and useful iinprovements in a garter grip and has for one of its objects to improve the structure shown and described in my prior Patent No. 1,586,- 401, dated May 25, 1926.
Another object of the invention is to provide a socket member of a garter grip having an unique construction whereby it may be readily removed from the stud member of the grip when it is desired to separate them.
Another object of the invention is to pro- `vide a socket member having a garter grip including a housing open from end to end and so fashioned as to provide a recess for the resilient clip or clamp of peculiar arrangement.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a novel means for clamping the stud member to the garter pad whereby the hole or holes formed by the fastening means will be covered at all times.
lilith these ends in View, this invention consiste in the details of construction and co1nbination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
ln order that those skilled inthe art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, l will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings which ll ig. 1 is a front elevation of a garter illustrating my improved garter grip applied hereto.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of the soc-liet member of the grip.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the stud member prior to the plate being bent into shape.
Fig. 6 is an edge view of the stud member after being fashioned ready for attachment to a garter with a portion of the plate broken away and shown in section.
In carrying out my invention as herein em bodied, 10 represents a garter of any well Vknown or desired construction including a pad 11 provided with the usual clasp l2 roi' o attachment to a hose and a strap 13 usually reto. serial 110.454,21@-
of elastic material with its fore-`endlooped and provided with an attaching buckle 14, the latter being used for adjusting the size of the garter. i i i f ff Tofthe` pad V11 is secured a stud member 15 of my improved garter `grip by `means of prongs 16 which are formed as integralfparts of the plate 17 and have barbs 18 produced by partially severing sections ofmetal from the prongs and bending them outwardlas showninlligd` j `The prongs 16 arebent back under the plate and then outward or downward as shown in Fig. (iso that the working parts of the prongs underlie the plate andare spaced :some distance from the rear edge thereof.
In factual practice,` these prongs areprojected through the pad 11 or the `facingelement thereof and then bentupitowardithe under side of the platein order to clampsaid stud element on the pad. By this arrange.- Inent, the holes formed in the pad or facing element thereof will underlie the plate 17 and therefore if-the material `is stretched soaslto open vthe holes, they will still be invisible. The'` stud 19 has a reduced neck 20 and is also provided with ashank 21 which is projected through the plate and headed forriveting the studto the plate. j
TA socket member 22 is attached to the fore looped end of the strap 13 by threading said strap through the slot 23 in the plate 24, said plate having an aperture 25` therethrough. This plate carries a housing 26 which surrounds the aperture 25 and spaced from the edgethereof so as to form the inner end wall of the housing while `the outer end of said housing is providedwith an aperture 27 approximatelycorresponding in sizeto the aperture 25. A i
`Within the housing `is located the resilient clip or clamp 28` formedffrom a section of suitable gage spring `wire and fashioned t0 provide a bow 29 from which project the legs 30 and 31, the former terminating in an arcuate section 32 and the terminal of the latter lies adjacent the terminal of the leg 31. The legs 30 and 31 diverge from the bow 29 as shown in Fig. 3 so that at the end of the clamp opposite the bow 29, said legs are separated Ywhen the stud membervis in use.- e -l'n testimony whereofflhave hereu to af- `fixed my signature.'
further apart thanadjacent the bow and being free may be readily disengaged from the stud member by a simple tilting of the socket member so that the open end of the clamp first rides over the head ofthe stud.
In practice, the socket member is placed over the stud until the aperture 25 registers with said stud and then by Vpressing the two together the resilient clamp will be forcedv over the stud through the separation of the legs of said clamp, but las soon as the socket member has reached a certain position, the
legs ofthe clamp will contract or enterthe neck 20 and thereafter prevent accidental displacement ofthe socket 'member from the stud member,v
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction las herein shown,
as these may be varied within the' limitsvof l thelappended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention. f
Having thus fully described invention,
lwhat VI claim as new and useful is v1. A v garter gripcomprisingstudand socket members, said'stud memberincluding a-plate, prongs projecting from said plate and underlying the bodyl thereof, barbsfprojectingfrom saidprOngs and a stud riveted y to said plate, and said socket member inc1u`dl ing an aperturedplate, a housing mounted on said plate and surroundingthe aperture therein, said housingv having an aperture in Y itsouter Vengland rajspring clamp withinsaid housingvformed'from a piece of. wire fashionedto produce a -bowdiverging; legs pro- V.jectingfrom said bow and one of'said'legs having an arcuateterminal. v
