This invention relates to improvements in liquid holding containers and more particularly to types in which two distinctly separate liquids are maintained without mixing.
Such types of containers are desirable for several purposes; in the present instance being employed in the sale of hair tonics to individuals, the tonic occupying the main portion of the bottle, while a suitable oil is contained in a compartment carried by the cap within the bottle.
In some cases the tonic is used by itself, as when the hair is naturally oily, while in others, Where a dry condition of the hair and scalp exists, an oil is desirable, which is supplied by mixing the contents of the lesser, oil carrying, receptacle with that of the larger, in such quantities and to such extent as may appear desirable.
It is therefore the main feature of the present invention to. provide a main container having a cap, and carried within the container is a smaller receptacle pendantly supported by the cap, the same being an improvement over a co-pending application filed December 12, 1928, Serial No. 325,502.
The object of the invention is obtained by the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, the figure being'a partial side elevational, partial sectional view of a container made in accordance with the invention.
The body 5 of the main container may be of any preferred cross-section, as round, oval, etc., etc., the same being convergingly inclined, as at 6, to a cylindrical neck 7 having at its outer end screw threads 8.
Fitted to engage-over the threads 8 isthe annular skirt portion 9 of acap 10, the top being imperforate and the periphery formed with bands of knurling 11, by which an efl'ective grip for the fingers is provided.
Within the cap, at the end of its internal threads 13, is a seat 12, adapted to form a liquid tight joint with the upper edge of the bottle mouth'as shown.
Above the seat 12, in the upper part of the cap is another screw thread 14, by which is engaged the top of an inner container 15, so proportioned as to present a clear annular space 16 interjacent the neck 7 of the bottle, the extreme upper end of the container being tightly seated against the inner surface of the bottlecap.
The cap is preferably made of a substance amenable to die moulding and slightly yielding in character, as certain phenolic condensates, known commercially as bakelite, as is also the inner container 15, this substance being unappreciably affected by the liquids that may be within the containers, and may also be colored in any desired manner.
From th foregoing it will be seen that the user can conveniently unscrew and remove the main cap and the inner container 15 from the bottle, determine the quantity of oil desired and pour the same from the oil vial into the main container. The oil vial may then be screwed back into the main cap and the combination used as a closure, or the vial may-be discarded if preferred and the main cap alone used as the closure.
Although the foregoing is descriptive of one embodiment of the device, it will be understood that changes in proportions, sizes and minor detail of construction may be made, as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
It is also apparent that this device could be used advantageously for two kinds of powder, or for a powder and a liquid and also that materials such as hard rubber, bakelite,-various metals, and wood or wood preparations could be utilized in the construction.
Having thus described my invention and set forth the manner of its construction and application,what is claimed as new and. sought to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A main container having a cap provided with two internal screw threads of different diameters reinovably engaged over its month by the larger diametered threads, and a second container engaged by the smaller diametere'd thread to .said cap to extend into the neck of said bottle. 2. main conjtainerhaving a-- threaded neck, a cap having screw threads engageable therewith, said cap having a seat -to contact the edge of the bottle neck, a cylindrical inner container adapted to freely pass through the neck'of said bottle, and screw threaded means for removably engaging the second container to said cap-within and independent of the first screw threads.
- 3. A main container having a threaded neck, a cap screw threaded thereon, said cap being semi-yielding and having a seat to re ceive the bottle end, a second container having an open end and a straight cylindrical body, and co-operative screw threaded means to hold the open end of said second container in liquid tight engagement against the under side of said cap, whereby the body of said second container may be suspended within saidbottle.
