PROTECTIVE H EEL PLATE FOR GALOSHES Filed April 27, 1929 7l\\\\\\ 7 y f Inventor 2967'): am? GhzZer "A iiogn e y Patented Oct. 14, 1930 UNITED STATES BERNARD W. GRUBER, OF COUNCIL BLUFF-S, IOWA PROTECTIVE'HEEL PL ATE FOR GALOSHES Application filed April 27, 1929. Serial No. 7358,6 18.
This invention relates to galoshes and overshoes of a similar nature and has as its primary object the provision of an inner protective heel plate to be worn in the galosh or overshoe and arranged upon the inner surface of the heel portion of the galosh or overshoe.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a protective heel plate of the character described which is of very simple construction and design, comprising but a plate formed of metal or other similar substance, which plate will conform to the heel of the galosh and may be readily inserted within the galosh disposed over the inner surface of the heel portion when so disposed therein.
The primary object of the invention then, may be said to be to provide a very simple and effective device for preventing the wear of the heel surface of galoshes and similar overshoes, which wear is occasioned generally by the spike or French heel, common to the style of foot wear now adorning the feet of women in accordance with the present style of footwear.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a vertical central section of the rear portion of a galosh with parts adjacent the heels broken away to illustrate the intended use and purpose of this invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the heel plate per se.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the heel plate per se.
Figure 4 is a sectional View, taken through line l-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary detail sectional view, taken through the heel of a galosh and showing the heel of my invention when the wearer of the galosh is also wearing shoes of the spike or French heel type.
\Vith reference more in detail to the drawings, it will be seen that my improved protective plate comprises a plate 5 formed of metal or like durable material, and is so shaped as to conform to the shape of the heel of the galosh, the said plate being provided with the straight edges 6 and 7 respectively andthe rounded edge 8 to correspond to the rounded portion of the heel of a galosh.
The edges 7, 6-6 and 8 of the plate are rolled as at 9, whichit is apparent extends around the entire marginal edge of the plate and it will be seen when attention is directed to'Figure 1, that the plate is so disposed within the heel of the galosh as to cover the entire surface thereof and having the rolled edge 9 of the plate disposed upon the top surface of the heel to present a substantially fiat surface to the bottom face of the military heel 10 as therein illustrated.
This is the desired and intended use of the plate when the wearer of the galosh intends also to Wear shoes having themilitary for flat heel, such as is indicated at 10 in Figure 1 of the drawings.
: lvhen the wearer of the galosh intends also towear shoes having the spike or French heel such as illustrated fragmentarily in Figure 5 of the drawings, therein designated by the reference character 11, it is to be noted that the plate when placed in the heel of the galosh is disposed conversely to the manner of that displayed in Figure l ofthe drawings. p
' in other words, the plate is now so disposed wlthin the heel as to present the flat surface of the plate to the inner surface of the heel, and having theflange rolled edge 9 turned upwardly whereupon the heel 11 sets upon the plate and is encompassed by the flange 9 of the plate as herein illustrated.
In connection to that portion of the plate as illustrated in Figure 5, then, it will be seen that the heel will be prevented from movement within the heel of the galosh as it is apparent that the rolled edge 9 of the plate will hold the spike heel 11 in place upon the plate. 7
From the foregoing then, it will be seen that I have provided animproved heel protector plate for galoshes which will not only save the inner surface of the heel from wear, but which will also hold the heel of the shoe of the wearer stable within'the heel, thus affording comfort to the wearer of the galosh.
I am perfectly aware of the fact that there is on the market today any number of metal plates disposed Within the heel of a galosh, to prevent Wear of the heel, but I am not aware of the fact of any such heel plate as contemplated by the hereindescribed invention.
The plates now in use are for the most part secured in fixed position Within the heel of the galosh or are of such a configuration as to be adapted for use with but a certain type of heel, Whereas, as is evident in the present invention, the plate may be easily disposed Within the heel so as to be capable of use with either heels of the flat military type or of the French spike heel type of shoe nowin favor with the women of the day.
From the foregoing then, it Will be seen that I have provided an improved inner protective heel plate for galoshes which is very simple in construction, can be manufactured and sold for a very small cost and can be readily placed within the shoe and adapted for use in connection with the various types of heels common to the modern shoe and the style of the day. It is to be also understood that while I have herein described the invention as being particularly applicable to galoshes for Women it is to be understood that the inventionv is fully capable of use in the various types of overshoes Worn by men.
What is claimed is:
In a. galosh, the combination of a thin metallic plate adapted for disposition Within the heel portion of the galosh, and being of a contour and size as to entirely cover the inner surface of the heel, said plate having one face thereof relatively flat throughout its entire area and the other face thereof having a relatively flattened surface Within the confines of a raised edge portion formed on said other side of the plate, whereby said plate may be adapted for use with varying sizes of dress shoe heels when inserted in the heel portion of a galosh.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
