Description

Patented ct. 14, 1930 EMIL WEINHEIM. OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SIPHON BOTTLE Application filed December 14, 1927. vSerial No. 240,062.
This invention relates to siphon bottles.
The object of the invention is to improve in general both the mechanical construction and assemblage of the devices going to make up a siphon bottle, and also the appearance of such an article. A further object of the invention is to provide for the simple and efficient charging of such a bottle, and the simple and efficient dispensing of liquid from suoli a bottle, and for the protection of all the parts thereof for easy and safe transportation, such as when traveling. More particularly it is an object of the invention to .pro-
vide improved devices for controlling both 1'5 the charging of the contents of such a bottle and of the discharge of the liquid contents of such a bottle.
The above and further objects of the invention will better be understood by reference V to the illustrative embodiment of my invent-ion, to which the accompanying claims are directed solely for purposes of illustration and not limitation. This illustrative embodiment is described in the following specifican tion, in connection with the accompanying drawings which form a part thereof.
In the drawings, the single ligure is a vertical section of a bottle which is understood to be in the main fabricated of solids of revolution.
A indicates a glass ar or bottle with a large, flaring mouth, and preferably formed at the mouth with a ledge 1, adapted to seat the closure B. The flange 2 at the mouth of the bott-le is preferably formed with an undercut ring 3 to interlock with the sealing flange 4 of the closure B. It is preferred that the closure B be molded of some material such a bakelite, aluminum, or nickel, in which the siphon tube 5, preferably provided with a flared mouth 6, may be seated during the molding or thereafter, as desired. In the embodiment illustrated, it is contemplated that p the flange 4, after the application of the closure B, shall be heated and spun into intimate contact with the glass flange 2, although it is also contemplated that the closure B may be seated and held to the walls of the bottle in any suitable manner.
It is preferred that a protecting metal sheath C be provided for the bott-le, and to this end it is' convenient that it be formed in two parts, an upper part 10 and a lower part 11, engaged one with another by means of the screw thread 12. It is also preferred that a cap 13, serviceable as a drinking cup, seat over the mouth of the bottle and form also a protection for the devices associated with the closure B.
The discharge spout 14 is preferably hook shaped, as illustrated, and swivels in a ma chined perforation 15, extending through the closure B. It is sealed off at the top by a buttress ring 16, formed on the vertical portion of the spout, which preferably clamps a sealing washer 17 to the top of the closure B. The inner end of the spout 14 is closed by a screw threaded plug 18, the flange 19 of which clamps the washer 20' to the under or inner face of the closure B, both to hold the spout in its mechanical relation to the closure and to effect a fluid seal against the entrance of fluid into the perforation 15. The part 21 of the spout 14 within the perforation 15 is provided with a port to register with a duct 23 extending from over the mouth of the siphon tube 5 through the body of thc closure B. The spout 14 may swivel from the discharge position shown in dotted lines to the protected position shown in full lines.
In the discharge position the duct and port are in communication, to permit the discharge offluid, but in the protected position, they do not register, to permit the discharge of fluid. In addition to the closure of the valve formed by the swiveling spout, a plug closure 30 is preferably provided. This plug has a threaded portion 31 taking into the threaded perforation?l overlying the siphon tube 5. An unthreaded extension 33 carries a sealing Washer 34 fitting snugly, preferably cup shaped, int-o the machined cylindrical valve space 35, from which the duct 28 leads.
. When the plug 30 is screwed down, the washer 34 positively seals off the discharge mouth of the Siphon tube 5. When it is backed out, it seals the opening through which the plug enters the closure B, but permits an opening into the discharge duct 23.
F or the purpose of charging the'siphon bot tle, a perforationv 40 is formed in the closure B. rhe inner or distal end of this perforation is fitted with a soft rubber nipple 41,V preferably substantially acorn in shape, with a flange 42 expanded into a similar configuration in the closure, while the distal end;
of this valve nipple has a conical formation 43. The aerforation 44, through this nipple, i is normally closed by the internal fluid presvember, 1927.
closable by fluid pressure upon said distal end.
5. The structure'as defined in claim 4, and further characterized by the fact that the proximal end of said perforation is screw threaded, and there kis provided a screw threaded plug to engage the proximal end of'said nipple to effect a permanent and positive fluid closure thereof.
In witness whereof, l have signed my name to this specification, this 5th day of 'No- EMiL wniun'nnvi.
sure rof the Siphon bottle, but the nipple will permit the entrance of a charging tube such Y as that Shown and described in my copend-l` finger manipulating grips shown` for manipulating the plugs ofV my Siphon lbottle are of course merely illustrative of suitable means for effecting their operation.
