Description
Oct. 14, 1930. H, B ROTBERG 1,778,168
CLASP Filed Deze` 20, 1928 INVENTOR Pateted oct. 14, 1930 PATENT OFFICE l HENRY B. ROTBERG, F NEW YORK, N. Y.
. CLASP Application filed December 20, 19728. Serial No. 327,203.
. This invention relates to devices for connecting objects or parts thereof in adjusted relation. y
@ne object of the invention is to providek a vcifflexible bar having frictional engagingy Y Another purpose is to produce a double ended clip, with or without length adjustment, that can be appliedor removed instantly, no pins, buttons, or analogous secur-` ing means being employed.
Theseand other advantageous objects, such .as lightness of weight, pleasing appearance andv economy of manufacture, are attained by the novel constructionand combination of Vparts hereinafter described and shownv in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which: Fig. l, is a perspective view showing one application of the clip.
Fig. 2, is a detail perspective view of the clip drawn to an enlarged scale.
- Fig. 3, is a partial plan View of a modified form of the invention.
The device, which is essentially simple in character', consists of a bar 5, preferably a 35. thin strip of flexible sheet material, as celluloid, of parallel thickness and width.
The ends of this bar, which may be of any length compatible with itspurpose, are bent to produce looped rings 6 their reentrantly may be partially embedded therein or otherwise secured in any preferred manner.
In the modified formy of clip, shown in` Fig. 3, a pair of bars 5 are formed with loops G at one end only, the looped ends terminating in j aw elements 7 and the loops are provided with spring'reenforcements 8' in the manner previously described.
The opposite ends of the bars are preferably bent slightly outward to form stops 9 fill adapted to limit the movement of the bars within a clasp l0 by which the bars are held in operative relation.
"Although the foregoing is descriptive of the best known embodiment of the invention, it is apparent that minor modifications may be resorted to and that the clip is not limited to sizes and proportions as may be made as desired, within the scope of the appended claims. T0
Having thus described the invention and set forth the manner of its construction and use, what is yclaimed as new and sought to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A clip comprising a bar of flexible nonmetallic material having an open loop at each end, jaws extending from said loops to seat upon the bar adjacent the loops, said jaws having outwardly curved terminals, and metal spring bands encircling said loops to close the jaws upon tlie bar.
2. A clip comprising a pair of flexible nonmetallic bars having loops at one end and reentrant jaws disposed against the bars, said means consisting of spring metal bands en- 5' circling said loops, means to press the jaws against the bars, a clasp confining said bars, and stops on the opposite ends of the bars.
Signed at New York` in the county and State of New York, this'lth day of Novem- 90 ber, 192s.
HENRY B. RGTBERG.
