Description

Sept. 30, 1930. H. m 1,776,991- VENTILATING nous Filed March 6, 1929 INVENTDR.
Patented Sept. 30, 1930 HENRY QBIET'IE, or DETR IT} MICHIGAN '1 VENTILATI'NG noun 4;
Application filed March 6,
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a ventilating dome adapted for use on stoves, particularly stoves which are used for cooking purposes. V
It is an object of the present invention to provide a ventilating dome. of this class whereby vapors, smoke and odors arising from the stove or from articles being cooked thereon or therein may be quickly conveyed away. 1
It is another object of the invention to provide a ventilating dome of this'class which will be simple in structure, economical of manufacture and highly eflicient in use.
Anotherobject of the invention is the provisionof a ventilating dome of this class having means therein for effecting a forced draft. Another object of the inventionis the provision of'an electrically driven motor for effecting a forced draft and provided with control means for controlling the operation of said motor.
Other objects will appear hereinafter. The invention Consists in'the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. Q The invention will. be best understood by a reference to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and in which; r Fig. l is a central longitudinal vertical sectional view of the invention.
V Fig. 2 is a bottomplan view'of the inven tion. 7 V
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a diagrammatical view illustrating the wiring'in the invention. 1 V
The dome comprises a top having a rear wall 8. Thetop 7' is formed'to providean inclined front wall 8 and inclined end walls 10 and 11. The end walls and thefront wall 1 are formed with similar edge flanges. Thesev walls are provided with the downwardly directed angularly turned. portion 12 which is horizontally turned as at 13-and again vertically turned as at 14 to provide the channel 1 14. A flanges15 is also formed on the rear wall- 8. Projecting upwardly from -the top {framing member 17 wall 7 and formed preferably integral there- "192 9. 'seiiallno. 344,652. i
with is a neck 16 to'provide the outlet opening'of the ventilating dome. An annular is provided with a h'ori- Zontally "extended-flange l7 and secured to the .top wall 7 by the outwardly projecting lugs "'18 which are bolted' or otherwise suitably secured'to the top 7L Retaining st raps 19 and 20 arese'cured'to the under surface of the top? and serve as'additionalsupports for the annular member 17; these strips 19and20 aresecured to and serve to supportan electric motor 21 which is adapt ed to drive the fan-22, this fanbeingposi tioned preferably concentrically within the annularmember 1 7'. An L-shaped supporting bracket 23 ismounted on the forward wall of the dome and serves to support the electric socket 24 in which is positioned the light bulb 25, a sui table switch 26 serving to control the flow of current to "the light bulb 25. -7 Vires' 27 and 28 serve to conduct electricity to the motor '21, the switch 26 being interposed inthe wire 27l As shown in the drawngthe'se' wires lie in the channel 14." so that they are practically concealed fromview and nomarringofthe appearance of thedome is effected thereby." s V The rear wall 8 issecured to a supporting surface'29 :by screws 30 projected" through the rear .wall and 'thi'oug :the spacing chairs which are'iforine'd lUj- 'shaped and comprise the legs 31 and 32 which engage the supporting surface 29, the bight of these U-shaped chairs resting. against the face of the rear wall 8 so that aresilient and yieldable supporting of the dome is thereby effected. s When inuse a suitable conduitis mounted on the neck 16 and connected to a flue so that the vapors may expel from the room in which the stove may be positioned. Upon a 0 closing of the switch 26,'the light bulb 25 will be lighted; thusafi'ordin g desired illu- Inination over the stove and at-the same time setting into operation the fan 22 which will set up the forced draft to draw the vapors from around and above thefstove into the dome and expel them outwardly through the conduit or flue connected to the neck 16. By having the annular member 17 positioned concentrically about the fan 22, an increasing The inner endsof 60 in efiicieney is provided and escape of the vapors downwardly after being brought into the fan and into contact with the inner surface of the top wall 7 is retarded and practically prevented.
With a ventilating dome arranged and constructed as described, a durable and neatly appearing structure is prdvi'defl and one which will serve to maintain the room in 10 which food is being cooked free from all un' desirable odors of the "cooking f'oo'd.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of my invention, I "do not wish to limit myself to the precise details V of structure shown but desire to avail myself ofsuch variations and-modifications as come within -the 'scope of the appended claims.
'Havingth us 'described my invention, what l cl'aim'asmew'an'd desire tosecure by Letters Patentis:
=1. Adevieeof-theclass describedcomprising: a -ventilating do'me having an opening formed therei'n a framinfgmember :mounted on-said dome and surroundings'aid opening;

e0 2. 'A device of theclass describedcomprising: ventilating dome:having an opening formed therein ;-anannular' member mounted on said dome and-surrounding said opening; an inwardly directed flange on one end of saidannula'r *membenandspaced from said dome ;-a f-a'n embrace'd-by-said annular mem her and rotatable therein for 'eflecting a forced-draft through saidopening; 'a motor for driving said fan 1 and brackets engaging 4 the; peripheryof saidannular member and secured to's'aid dome "and {projecting radially inwardly of said annular member for supportingfsaid motor. i
In testimony whereof 'I have signed :the
