This invention relates to a womans garment, and especially to an under or nether garment.

It is one of the objects of my invention to provide a simple nether garment for women that requires very little sewing, and that can be very easily made.

It is another object of my invention to make it possible to use the same size of garment upon figures that range between somewhatwidely separated size limits. 7

It is still another object of my invention to make it possible to open or close the drawers while it is being worn, as required, without the necessity of manipulating any fastening means.

My invention can, however, be utillzed as well for mens garments, and it is therefore another object of my invention to provide a garment that is generally simple to make, and. comfortable to wear.

My invention possesses many other advantages, and has other objects which may be made more easily apparent from a considera- 7 tion of several embodiments of my invention.

For this purpose I have shown a few forms in the drawings accompanying and forming part of the present specification. I shall now proceed to describe these forms in detall, which illustrate the general principles of my invention; but it is to be understood that this detailed description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, since the scope of my invention is best detined by the appended claims.

embodying my invention in which there is a waist portion attached; and

Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5 of a slightly different form of garment.

The novel features of my garment relate to the seat or bottom portion thereof, and can be readily incorporated in a combined waist and drawers 11 of Fig. 1, or else, in a drawer 12 of Figs. 2 and 3. The leg and thigh covering portions comprise two similar parts 13 and 14 that overlap to a considerable extent the center portion of the garment. These overlapping or telescoping portions are indicated as having the boundaries of lines 15 and 16.

At this overlapping or telescoping area, the two sections 13 and 14 are entirely sep arate, they being merely sewed or otherwise fastened at their top to a waist band 17. It is to be particularly noted that the bottom folds 18 and 19 of the two portions 13 and 14 form a substantially straight connected bottom. Therefore when the garment is worn, it can very easily accommodate itself to the hips of the person wearing it. Furthermore, the two portions 13 and 14 can if desired be separated by the weareras indicated in Fig. 3 whenever it is desired to provide an opening at the bottom of the garment. The two portions can also be readily telescoped together from the position of Fig. 3 to that of Fig. 2.

It has been found that a garment of this kind is comfortable, being so readily conformable; and due to the large extent of over-- lapping, there is never any danger of the drawers opening unless it is purposely desired.

The waist band 17 can be slit at one side as indicated at 20, the slit continuing part ways down the side of the garment, for. permitting it to be placed over the hips of the wearer. Buttons 21 or other fastening means can be provided for closing the slit 20. The leg openings 22 are preferably slanting, and each extends between the end of the straight portions 18 or 19 and the bottom of the slightly flaring sides of the garment. Lace trimming 2.3 can as desired be used to trim these openings.

Perhaps the best mode of disclosing the manner in which the garment can be made is by the aid of Fig. l. Each of the leg portions 18 and Lt is made from a piece of material such as 2st. The line .5 can be a selvage edge and represents the vertical portions 15 or 16 of the finished garment. Edges 26 and 27 are sewed together to form the side. leaving an opening for a leg defined by edges 28 and 29. The other edges 30 and 31 are both sewed to opposite sides of the waist band 17. Althougl'i portion 241- can be made from two pieces with a seam atthe bottom, yet for ordinary sized garments, this portion can be made from doubled cloth folded along line 32. The pattern diagram of Fig. t indicates clearly the high degree of simplicity attendant upon the construction of the garment.

The bloomer or drawer portion of the garment forms the important part of my invention. To it can be added a waist portion 38 as shown in Figs. 1 and or else leg extensions can be added if desired. as shown in Fig. 3. These leg extensions can in fact be made much longer than indicated, especially when knit goods are used to tashion the garinent.

I claim:

1. In a garment. a pair of similar side members, each having a leg opening, a side portion. and a bottom portion adjacent the leg opening. said side members being telescoped one into the other so as to form the center portion of the garment of two layers of material, that edge of each member which telescopes with the other edge being open, and free substantially to the waist line at both front and rear, whereby upon moving the side members apart, a central large aperturc can be formed at and adjacent the bot tom of the garment, each of said side members having parts extending beyond the telescoping portion, permitting the two members to telescope along a major part of the side members so that these sioe men'ibers continue to overlie each other at the trout and back when these members are moved relatively to each other in either direction.

2. In a garment for covering the thighs of the wearer. a pair of similar side members, each being formed of material doubled along a straight line and defining the bottom of the garment. said material being united at one edge to define the side of the garment, and untastened at the opposite edge, there being a leg opening termed adjacent the fastened edge, said leg opening slanting from the bottom line where the material is doubled to the side. said two side members being telescoped at the unfastened edges to a substantial degree, whereby said members can be moved apart to form a large central aperture between them at and adjacent the bottom of the garment.

3. In a garment for covering the thighs of the wearer, a pair of similar side members, each being formed of material doubled along a straight line, said line defining the bottom of the garment, said material being united at one edge which is cut so as to form a flaring side for the garment, the opposite edge being nnfastened to define a large opening, the bottom line of the garment extending a distance shorter than the total width of the garment, thereby "forming a slanting leg openin g between the bottom of the united edge and said bottom line, and means at the top of the said side members to which the top edges thereof are fastened in such a way that the untastened edges may overlap at the center of. the garment for a considerable distance, whereby said members can be moved apart to form a large central aperture between them at and adjacent the bottom of the garment.

4:. In a garment, a pair of thigh covering portions, each of said portions having a substantially straight bottom where the front and back portions meet, and one overlying the other at both the front and back along a major part of said portions at the center of the garment, said overlying portions being unconnected to permit variation in the degree of overlying, the straight bottom portion permitting relative movement both to increase and to decrease the degree of overlying for a substantial distance along the total bottom length.
