This invention relates to game devices and has for its primary object to simplify and improve certain of the co-operative parts. These improvements may be briefly described as follows: First to provide simple and inexpensive means whereby a target board may be supported at a desired backward leaning angle to the perpendicular and second to provide an improved, harmless and safe dart to be thrown at the target board in an effort to obtain a high score. This dart in its improved harmless and safe form may comprise a shank of wood or other material having a head and a tail extension to which radial wings may be attached.

The head may be counterbored "to receive the shank of a leading weight shaped to fit a socket formed in the shank of a soft rubber suction'cup, which acts to engage the target and hold the dart where it strikes, so that aft'ernumerous darts have been thrown at the target, each remaining where put, an accurate score may be taken from each round, set, or series of darts progressively thrown in the game, at the same time the dart being absolutely harmless and safe in case it misses the target and strikes an onlooker.

' The target supports may each consist of stamped metal comprising a relatively long base platestamped to provide spring arms which may be bent up in parallel relation to form a pocket in which the target board may be supported at a desired angle. At opposite sides of the open spaces left in the base plates by the upturning of the said arms, are reinforcing ribs extending along the side edges of the said plates to strengthen the supports at those points. It has been found in practice that the darts when thrown at the target readily stick or adhere to the smooth face thereof by reason of the suction cups carried thereby.

Especially is this true in case the target board is held at a slight backward angle to the vertical to compensate for the slight arch in the travel of the darts through the air and when the cast is of some distance.

In order that the invention may be clearly .understood and readily carried into effect the same will now be described more fully,

in detail with reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment thereof in which:

In carrying out my invention with reference to the drawings I provide a target board 10, preferably having a smooth unbroken front face on which is a bulls-eye 11, painted, printed or otherwise provided.

The board is preferably maintained in a backward leaning position by improved supports 12, each comprising a relatively long base plate 13, from which oppositely extending spring arms 14, are stamped and then bent up in parallel relation to form a pocket 15, the remote ends of said spring arms, being turned outwardly to form a guide mouth 16, to enable the user to readily place the target in position.

The arms may be bent to support the target at a desired angle to the vertical or other means maybe employedto adjust the angle of the arms.

At opposite sides of the cut out portions of the base plate, I' may provide struck up ribs 17, to strengthen the supports at those points.

In playing the game forming the subject matter of the present invention, numerous darts are required, one or several for each player, each of these improved darts comprise a shank of wood or other material shaped to provide a properly curved and shaped head 18, to be grasped by the fingers when projecting the dart through the air. This head terminates in a backwardly directed reduced y portion or tail 19, to which radial Wings 20, or other guiding or stabilizing devices may be secured.

The head 18, of the dart may be counterbored as at 21 to receive the shank 22, of a leading weight 23, which is shaped to fit a socket 24, formed in the shank 25 of a soft rubber suction cup 26 which acts to set up a vacuum between it and the smooth face of the target to hold the dart where it strikes until the score is determined or counted.

The target board 10, may be provided with an eyelet 27, at its top center whereby the board may be hung out of the way when not in use, or it may be suspended from a suitable support when playing the game at such a place where the target cannot be set up in its position hereinbefore described. 7

It will be obvious that my improved dart will eliminate the dangerous needle points heretofore used in such devices to cause them to adhere to the target and my inclined target will enable the suction cup to stick to almost any kind of comparatively smooth surface 'on the target, like paper, wood, etc., while my leading weight appropriately placed in the body of the dart, will greatly aid in the manipulation of the same.

The invention is not limited to any physical embodiment, but on the contrary is susceptible of being expressed in different materials, structures and forms, and certain of its features may be employed to the exclusion of others, without departing from the spirit of the invention. So for instance, one of the obvious changes in the embodiment of my invention may consist in dividing the leading weight into several parts, instead of one integral weight being used.

I also want to remark and give notice of the fact that the present application is a substitute for my application for Letters Patent, dated November 22,1926, Ser. No. 150,117,- for the same invention.

-- What I claim as new, is:

1. In a dart for a game device, in combination a shank with a head portion; aweight having arear portion adapted to enter into the material of said head to secure said weight to'said shank thereby, a front portion of said weight protruding from said head, and a, resilient cup having asocket to receive said protruding portion of the weight and being so secured thereon.

2. In a dart for a game device, in combination a shank with a head portion; a weight I having a rear portion adapted to enter into the material of said head to secure said weight to said shank thereby, a front portion of said weight protruding from said head, and a resilient cup having a socket to receive said prothereof to provide an enlarged gripping portion for said shank, said gripping portion carrying an elongated portion of said weight for better balancing the device.
