Description

- Aug. 5, 1930. FENCE 1,772,223
EAR PROTECTOR Filed Nov. 2. 1929 6 Inventor LILLIE 1E. FENCE, B BOANOKE, VIRGINIA.
EAR PROTECTOR Application" filed November 2, 1929. semi mi. 404,447.
This invention appertains to improvements in apparel to be worn during the operation of shampooing the head.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a protector for ears which in use will efficiently serveito prevent any of the shampooin liquid from entering the ears.
In the fofiowing specification, various other important objects and advantages will become apparent to the reader.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a view of the protector in use.
Figure 2 is an elevational View disclosing the device in its entirety.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view of the device in use.
Figure 4 is a. fragmentary inside elevational view disclosing one of the ear units.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the device includes a pair of ear envelopes, each generally referred to by numeral 5. A sheet 6 is rovided at one end with 'a strap extension while its opposite end is enlarged and Constructed to provide a continuous margin or border 8 for one of the envelopes 5. I
A sheet 9 is also constructed at one end to provide a continuous margin or border to theremaining envelope 5. However, the reduced extension 10 of the sheet 9 is provided .with a transversely extending opening 11 for receiving the strap extension 7 of the sheet 6. The strap 7 is provided with a plurality of longitudinally spaced male elements '12 for cooperation with the socket member 13 at the extremity of the strap 7.
The envelopes are constructed of suitable soft material (preferably waterproof) and GnCh has its edge portion bent outwardly as at 1% and backwardly as at 15. This backwardly bent portion of the envelope is stitched against the inner side of the marginal portion of the corresponding sheet 6 or 9 and in this manner a rib will be provided which will bear against the head in position snugly surroundin the ear.
Gbviously by assembling the envelopes on the of the user, the reduced extension 10 andistrap 7 may be connected by disposing the strap 7 through the opening 11 and engaging the socket member 13 with one of the elements l2to maintains the envelopes engaged with the cars so that they will not easily become displaced therefrom..
It is thought that the foregoing description willbe clear to one skilled in this particular art, and that while certain materials may be more suitable than others, it is to be understood that any material may be employed and that certain changes in the shape and size of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what I claim as new is:
An ear protector of the character described comprising a pair of envelopes, a marginal border for each envelope, the edge portion of each envelope being bent outwardly and then backwardly,-said backwardly bent portion of each envelope being secured to the inner side of its corresponding border so that the bent backportion will press against the head of the user.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
' LILLIE FENCE.
