Description

LeR. CARPENTER; V. KAUFFMAN & E. WHITE.
MACHINE FOR PUNCHING METAL LA'IH. 176.511.
Patented April 25, 1876 wnuessss:
ATTORNEY NF'ETERS, PIfiOTOLITHOGRAFHER. WASHINGTON. D
v UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LE ROY CARPENTER, VICTOR KAUFFMAN, AND EASON WHITE, OF
BEARDSTOWN, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR PUNCHING METAL LATHS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,5 ll, dated April 25, 1876; application filed March 2.3, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LE ROY CARPENTER, vto'ron KAUFFMAN, and EASON WHITE, of Beardstown, C ass county, Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Machine for Preparing Metal Lathing, of which the following is a specification:
Our invention consists of a couple of metal rolls, having punches for making slits for the plaster; also, punches for making the nailholes by which to fasten the sheets on the studs, and one having a cutter for trimming the sheets, which said rolls are geared together, and provided with a hand-crank or other means for turning them, making a simple and efficient contrivance for preparing metal sheets for plastering.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevation of our improved machine taken on line or as. Fig. 2 is a plan "iew, and Fig. 3 is a section, of the metal lathing, such as the machine is used to prepare with a coat of plaster applied.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the upper roll, and B the lower one, of a'pair arranged with a suitable table; (3, on which are guides D for running the sheets between them, and which are geared together and provided with driving-gear F. The rolls are made hollow, and the lower one has dies G H, for which the other one has corresponding punches I J, the former being to punch the holes K for the plaster, and the latter to punch the holes L for the nails by which the sheets are attached to the studs. M represents a cutter on the upper roll for trimming the sheets at the same time they are punched. N represents the perforated sheet, and O the plaster applied to it as when arranged in the building. 4
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of roll A, having the punches I J and the cutter M, with the roll B, having the dies G H, said rolls being geared together and arranged in connection with table 0 and guide D, substantially as specified.
