This invention relates generally to windows and has more particular reference to a novel lock for holding windows in closed position or partially open positions.
Y The invention has for an object the provision of a device of the class mentioned which is of simple durable construction, desirable in use and efficient in action, and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
The invention proposes the use of a lock strip with struck out tongues, secured upon a window frame and the tongues being engaged by a lock foot attached on a shank slidably mounted in a bushing provided with external threads engaged in a threaded boss supported upon one of the sashes of the window. The shank is provided at its free end with a handle engaging against the bushing. Preferably the point oi attachment upon the sash should be on the top edge of the inner sash at one end thereol2 or at both ends, or, and on the inner tace of the outer sash.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying dra-wings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features oit' the invention are more particularly set forth.

' The reference numeral 10 indicates generally a wall seen from the inner side and having a window consisting oa window' frame 11, an inner sash 12, and an outer sash 18. The top edgeor theinner sash is indi` cated by numeral 14. r
A lock strip 16 provided with a plurality of lock tongues 17'is secured by screws 18 upon the window frame 11,'preterablyl in a vertical lgroove 19 formed in the window frame. The lock tongues 17 are preferably struck out of the material of the lock strip.
Secured on the top edge 14 of the inner Vsash 12 is a base 20. This base is provided with lugs 21 thru which screws 22 pass for producing the securing action. A vertical wall 23 is integral with the base 20 and lis formed with a boss 24 provided with internal threads 25. An external threaded bushing 26 engages the threads 25 and is provided with an enlarged knurled hea-d 27 A shank 28 is slidable'and rotatively mounted within the bushing 26 and has a square head 29,
Vwhich also serves as a handle, attached' at one end the head 29 engages against the head 27 while alock o'ot 30 is attached on the other end of said shank; This lock foot y is of smallwidth and of greater'height as may be gathered from Figs. 2 and 4, and is eccentrically mounted upon 'the shank 28. Thebase 20 isformed with a groove 20a for receiving the lock foot 30 and holding it in a retracted unlocked position, as indicated in broken 'lines in Fig. 4.
lNormally the lock foot 30 stands vertically inthe groove yS19 so that the window lsash may be raised and lowered without any interference in any raised or lowered position of the window sash. The handle 29 may then be rotated to move the lock toot 30 thru an angle of 90 degrees for engaging said lock foot into one ofthe lock tongues 17. Then the'knurled head 27 may be rotated for advancing the bushing 26 outwards so as to push against the handle 29 sliding the shank 28 outwards and causing A the lock foot 30 to rmlyengage against the lock tongue 17. Fig. 7 illustrates this locked position of the device.
It should be noted that the window sash is provided With a bossl 24C for supporting is novir locked against being moved.
