' The present invention relates to improvements in pen holders and more particularly has reference to an improved pen holder constructed to permit the quick displacement and renewal of pen points.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a pen holder wherein a pen pointcan be quickly removed from the same in a convenient manner.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a pen holder which will permit the extraction of the pen point without necessarily soiling the hands.
These and other objects of the invention will become more apparent to the reader after considering the invention as described and claimed hereinafter.
In the drawings Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the improved pen.
Fig. 2 represents a partial longitudinal sectional view through the pen holder.
Fig. 3 represents a partial longitudinal sectional view through the pen holder, taken on a plane substantially at right angles to the sectional plane of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 represents an end elevation of the pen holder.
Fig. 5 represents a sectional View of the pen holder taken substantially on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4, and looking in the direction of the arrow.

Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, the numeral 3 designates the improved pen holder which consists in the construction of a shell 4: and
a shank 5 extending therefrom.
The shell 4: has a longitudinally extending siot 6 therein, as Well as an opening 7. The.
pen point clamping means is generally referred by the numeral 8 and consists of an elongated tapering block of suitable material.
The enlarged end portion of the plug is reduced as at 9 and provided with a channel 10 extending inwardly from its enlarged end.
A clamping section 11 is hingedly connected at 12 to the plug at the inner end of its reduced portion, and this clamping section is provided with a transversely curved boss 13 for engagement within the channel 10.
The plug carries a reduced extension 14 at its reduced end and is also provided with a longitudinally extending panel 15 at its reduced end portion for receiving the leaf spring 16. The leaf spring is secured as at 17 to the plug and has its opposite end bent upwardly as at 18 and provided with a head 19.
The reduced extension 14 is adapted to engage within a coiled spring 20 located within the shell 4, and the spring member 16 serves to retain the plug in retracted position by havi pg its head 19 engaged through the openmg A stop means consists of a threaded member 21 threadedly engaged into the plug and provided with an enlarged head 22 protruding through the slot 6 and overlapping the same and being roughened on its top surface to facilitate the movement of the plug, when the head 19 has been disengaged from the opening 7. v
In Fig. 1 a pen point 23 is shown engaged within the clamp 8. Obviously, when the clamping device is forced inwardly to the point where the head 19 engages through .80 the opening 7 the same will become wedged within the shell due to the tapering construction.
Obviously, certain changes in the specific shape, size, and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter. I
In Fig. 7 a modified form of the invention is shown wherein the plug 8 is adapted to be wedged into the hollow socket 4 which is provided with a bayonet slot 6 for receiving a pin 21 projecting from the plug 8.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. An article of manufacture comprising a pen holder having an opening at one end, a sectional plug for disposition within the said opening, the sections of said plug being adapted to clamp against the opposite sides of a pen point, and a spring detent for re- T100 taining the plug in clamped position in the opening of the pen holder.
2. An article of manufacture comprising a pen holder having an opening at one end thereof, a sectional plug for disposition Within the opening, the sections of said plug being adapted to clamp against a pen inserted therebetween, said penholder being provided with an opening in its side communicating with the last mentioned opening, said plug being provided with a groove, and a spring element adapted to be sprung into the opening in the holder for retaining the sections in clamped position, and may be depressed into the said groove when the plug is to be released from the holder.
