Air-cell pipetcoverings heretofore made have generallyconsisted of-a spiral cylindrical construction formed of a spirally wound or rolled continuous sheet of heat resisting material, which was diflicult and costly to make and which had inner and outer laps or joints, at the inner and outer ends of thespirally wound or rolled sheet. Furthermore, air-cell pipe coverings heretofore made have consisted of a continuous or. integral spirally formed cylinder whiclrwas cut axially or longitudinally after formation or completion to permit insertion thereinto,
I of the pipe to be insulated or covered.
A still further disadvantage resided in the fact that a spirally formed air cell. pipe covering wasnot of a uniform diameter or cross section, with a resultinginaccuracy inthe fit of said air cell pipe covering to the heating pipe to be insulated and covered thereby.
It is therefore the object of my invention tov produce a novel air cell pipe covering which is of uniform diameter and cross sectional thickness, and one which is formed initially axially split, with the edges thereof flush, contiguous, juxtaposed and in the same cylindrical plane, ,thereby' eliminating the objectionable laps and joints resulting from spiral formations above referred to. To the above ends my'novel air cell pipe covering consists of a plurality of sheets of heat resisting material of the same length but of gradually decreasing widths, with the widest of said sheets forming the outer circumference and the narrowest of said sheets forming the inner c1rcumference,said sheets being coated with an adhesive and moulded together in-concentric nested formation with '5 the longitudinal edges of said sheets, par- 336,1G3. - For the purpose ofillustrating my invention I haveshown in the accompanying drawings forms thereof which are atpresent preferred by me although it is to be understood that the same are only illustrative ofthe nature of my invention andthat my invention is not limited to the precise con struction shown and described.
