This invention relates to identification devices and more particularly devices of this character which are adapted to be secured upon books and paper binders as disclosed in my application Serial No. 247,448, filed January 17, 1928, Patent No. 1,698,663, Jan. 8, 1929, and upon which this invention constitutes an improvement One of the objects of this invention is to provide a device of the character disclosed factured at low cost.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent from a studyof the accompanying drawings taken in connection with the following specification.

The device constituting this invention comprises an elongated strip 4 of any suitable material, having its opposite ends turned at right angles thereto and forming transversely extending lugs 5 and 6. The opposite end of the bar 9 is provided with threads 13 upon which is mounted a detachable securing device 14:. The securing device 14 is provided with atransversely slotted tapered head 15 adapted to seat in the opening 7 of the lug 5.

Intermediate its ends the strip 4 is provided with pairs of- opposed incisions 16 and 17 which extend transversely into said strip 4 for a distance from the longitudinal edges thereof. The marginal portions of the strip 4 lying between the pairs of incisions 16 and forming flanges 18. The lower ends of the i v flanges 18 are bent down against the. face of the strip a for the purpose of closing that end of the grooves formed by said flanges, as shown by reference character 19. The

grooves at the opposite ends of the flanges 18 are open to permit the insertion of an indiciabearing strip 20 into the grooves formed by the flanges 18. The strip 20 may be formed of any suitable material such as cardboard or thick paper. A strip of transparent material 21 is positioned under the flanges 18 and over the strip 20 for the purpose of protecting same. i In use the bar 9 having sleeve 10 thereon and securing device 14 are removed from the strip 1. The strip 4 is then positioned upon the rear end of a binder in the manner shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, in which position the lugs 5. and 6 will. extend forward- F ly over the upper and lower edges of the leaves in said binder. The securing rod 9 and securing sleeve 10 are then projected through the opening 8 in lug 6 and passed through the binder forwardly of the strips 2 into the opening 7 of lug 5. The securing device 14 is then screwed onto the threads 13 on rod 9 through the opening 7 until the tapered head15 of said securing device seats in said opening. In this position the device is securely mounted upon the binder.
