My invention has relation to stills for i io1C1ilCkIlg Oil, and more particularly to that class of stills in which the cracking operation y p is a continuous one, the oil to be cracked being pumped into the stillas thecracking proceeds.
151 During the cracking process, carbon freed from the oil collects on the sides of thestill,
and to prevent clogging of the still, must be' continuously removed. The present invention has more particular relation to `means of no novel character for effecting such carbon removal. y
`The present application is a continuation of my pending application Serial No. 114,384,
filed August 11, 1916, as to all subject matter common thereto.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, in which I have illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention, and which will -now be described, the numeral 2 designates 3o a vertical still, preferably consisting of a cylindrical bodywith a convex head 3, Welded Il or otherwise secured to its upper portion, as
indicated at 4L, and a bottom 5 of inverted cone-shape and having a central carbon disi` charge opening 6. This opening may be conV nected to any suitable carbon receiver (not i shown) from which the collected carbon may be discharged from time to time. The still is designed to be placed on a fur- *nace such, for instance, as that shown in my application above referred to, but which forms no part of the present invention.
In accordance with my invention, I provide the still with a central `,vertically Vrotating shaft 7, having a bottom step bearing at 8, i within the still, and its upper portion ex tending upwardly through the top of the still and through a stuffing boX 9, its upper end being provided with suitable rotating means,

I claim: y Y
1. In an oil-,cracking still having a curved inner surface, a central shaft extending within the still, a plurality of arms fixed to said shaft, a lever pivoted to each of said arms and having a Aforwardly inclined scraper thereon adapted to be pulled along the inner surface of the still upon rotation of said central Shaft, and a weight mounted to act upon each of said levers to press the Scrapers against Such y inner surface, said weights being effective on said` levers intermediatethe pivotal mounting thereof' and the scraper, substantially as described. v Y
2. A still for cracking oilcomprising a cylindrical upper portion and a bottom portion of inverted cone 'shape terminatinoP in a discharge opening, a series of yielcingly mounted Scrapers cooperating with the cylindrical upper portion for supplying scraped material to the bottom portion and a rigidly mounted scraper cooperating with substantially the entire surface of the cone shaped lower portion, for advancing material to the discharge opening, .substantially as described. i Y
3. In a vertical oil-cracking still having a curved innersurface, a center Shaft extending within the still, a plurality of arms fixed to said shaft, a scraper lever pivoted to each of said arms, and a weight mounted to act upon each of said levers to continuously press the Scrapers against such inner surface, each of said levers extending backwardly from the direction'of their rotation and having their blades inclined forwardly in the direction of rotation, Said blades'being formed onV the lev vers rearwardly of the` pivotal mounting on the arm, substantially as described.
4. In apparatus for scraping stills, a rotatable sh t,a lural-ity of arms extending radially lthere om, a plurality kof Scrapers mounted loosely on the arms, weights operatively attached to the Scrapers at a point intermediate the scraping edges and the scraper mountings Vwhereby against the wall of the still.
