' n The mixing chamber is thus in the form of a cylinder having for diameter, the diameter .of the orifice and for height, the length thereof. It is as reduced as possible and is practically only a few millimeters. It is therefore outside the burners that the intimate mixture of the gases is made.
A jet of oxygen, added to the whole of the preceding system, enables the blowpipe to ,be used for cutting purposes. Finally by capping the whole with a cap of any'geometrical shape suited to the kind of work, and providing an air-feed pipe working under pressure to issue in said cap, the blowpipe can be used for cutting under water,'.the water being prevented from entering the cap by the air. Connected with the chamber Z is a second oxygen duct j, controlled by the valve m and which issues in immediate proximity to the lighted jet, to enable cutting work to be performed. 7
In order to beable to employ the blowpipe under water, a cap n of suitable shape, round, oval, etc. is screwed on the end of the apparatus and inslde this cap a pipe conveying compressed air feeds, the feed being con trolled by the valve 0; this air expels the water from the cap n and enables the blowpipe to work.
For working under water, in the first place the compressed air valve 0 is opened, so as to expel the water from the cap n. Then the needle-valve 0 is opened and the gas jet is ignited by an electric device. The oxygen is fed by opening more or less the needle-valve d, in order to regulate the flame. The mixture being made, the valve m is opened to prime the cutting jet.
What I claim is my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is l A blow-pipe comprising a casing having a short end'but at an angular declination, a
plurality of valve controlled ducts'receiv'ed in said casing and extending therethrough, a conical nozzle for each duct arranged concentrically with respect to each other and mounted in the short end of the casing, the innermost of said concentrically arranged nozzles being provided with striations formed on its outersurface a w secured to the free extremity of said short end about the concentrically arranged nozzle andanair duct opening rearwardly of said cap for directly delivcringcon pressed air into the same.
