IVILLIAM THOMPSON, OF ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SOAP,
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,63 [9' dated April 4, 1876 application filed 7 I September 24, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM THOMPSON, of Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State ot'Pennsylvania, have invented certain new improvements useful in the manufacture of soap, that I style a Toilet-Soap Powdrfl and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
To enable others to make and use my invention I will describe it as follows: v
The nature of my invention consists in the combination and use of the following-named ingredients: Olive-oil, eight pounds; glycerine, one quart; oil of sweet-almonds, one ounce; orris-root, one pound; bicarbonate of soda, one pound; salts of tartar, seven pounds; one pound of furnace-slagthat is, the first run of a charcoal-furnace.
I mix the above-named ingredients, and by the application of heat they form a soap; then cool the mass and cut it up into bars; then dry sufficiently and grind and pulverize them, and
run the powder through sieves.
To use my soap, first dip the hands or clotl in water; then sprinkle with the powder, and wash. It makes a fine lather and cleanses free from dirt.
