This invention relates generally to feminine wearing apparel, and has more particular reference to a novel bust supporter.

The invention has for an object the provision of a device of the class mentioned, which is of simple durable construction, desirable and etlicient in action and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

The device consists of a strip of fine material, preferably doubled or comprising. two layers and of a length so as to fit about the body of a wearer at the bust region for forming a body band. The material at the front of the band is folded and stitched to form a plurality of darts V for shaping substantially semispherical bust members. The edges of the band are finished with binding strips or lace material. Shoulder straps are attached to the top of the band and a means 0 for securing the ends of the strip together,

for forming the band is associated with the said ends. The semispherical bust members may be provided with laced strings between the darts for size adjusting purposes.

For further comprehension of the invention and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various 0 novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Fig. 8 is a fragmentary front elevational View of the article shown in Fig. 7.

The reference numeral 10 indicates generally a strip of fine material consisting of a front layer 11 and a rear layer 12. This strip of material is made from right hand and left hand sections sewed together at 13, and is of such length so as to fit about the body of a wearer at the bust region forforming a body band, the edges of the strip being curved in contour for comfort in wearing.

The material at the front of the band is folded and stitched to form a plurality of darts 14, preferably four in number, for shaping substantially semi-spherical bust members 15. The darts 14: are preferably formed so that the lower pair of darts, and upper pair of darts of each bust member have their adjacent edges 16 on the front side of the band.

The band is turned backwards along its top edge, as indicated by numeral 17, and lace material 18 is secured along this edge by stitches 19. Fancy tape 20 is secured to the lower edge of the band on the front side thereof by stitches 21. Shoulder strapsv22 are attached to the top edge of the band.

he ends of the strip 10 are provided with vertical binding strips 23 having hooks 24 and coactable eyes 25, as a means for securing the ends of the strip together for forming the band.

Themodified form of the device illustrated in Figs. 7 and 8, discloses an adjustable bust member 15 comprising the bust member 15, B5 and strings 26 laced between the adjacent edges on the same side of the band of the darts 14. These strings are tied together as at 27 and the size of the semi-spheres may be changed by loosening or tightening the strings 26.

lVhile I have shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

A bust supporter comprising a strip of material adapted to encircle the body of the wearer at the height of the busts, folds extending from the top and bottom edges of the strip inward to form substantially semispherical bust members, and inelastic lacing connecting the adjacent edges of pairs of folds for changing the distance between the folds for changing the size of the semispherical bust members.
