Description

J. I. REICHERTS.
` BRIDGE.
No. 175,165. Paieryed March 21,1876. r FW lill/ff" wlmasses- Lw .F-I
UNITED STATES PATENT QEEICEr JOHN J. REIOHERTS, OF DELAWARE, OHIO.
IMPRoVEMi-:NT IN BRIDGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,165. dated March 21, 1876; application filed March 13, 1876.
Toall whom it may concern: l
Be it known that I, JOHN J. REIcHEETs, ot' Delaware, in the county of Delaware and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bridges, of which the following is a specification My invention consists of arches formed with cable-wires, the arches being sustained by staves ot' wood or metal, and the door-structure being suspended from stirrups, which bind the stages and the cable-wires together.
Fignrel is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved bridge. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on lille :c a; of Fig. l.
lSimilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the arched cable-Wires, of which I prefer to use three for each arch, one above another. B represents the staves, forming a body-arch for keeping the cable-arches inposition, the latter being applied to the sides of the body. C represents the stirrups, by which the cable-wires and the bodyarch are coupled together and the suspension-rods D are coupled to 'the arches. E represents keys for taking up the slack of the body-arch from time to time.
The body-arch will be of such depth as will afford the requisite lateral and torsional rigid-l ity. lwo cable-arches may be sufficient to each side ot' the body-arch; but this will depend mainly upon the strength required.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new,and desi-re to secure. by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of two or more cablearches, A, with a body-arch of staves, B, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of stirrups C with the arched cable-Wires and the body-arch B, substantially' as specified.
