"145 ing a modfied form of Patented Mar. 141, 193() PATENT OFFICE ISAAC MARINSKY,`OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND GLOVE Application led March 31, 1928. Serial` No. 266,142.
This invention relates to gloves orv any other class of hand covering and particularly to the provision of a pocket in the glove in which change and other small articles may 5 be stored for convenient accessibility; and the object of the invention is to provide an improved pocket construction consisting of relatively movable parts with means for coupling said parts together to close the open end of i the pocket, and said parts permitting of the formation of a comparatively large opening controlling admission to the pocket to facilitate the easy removal of the articles con tained in the pocket and also the placement 'i5 of the articles therein; a further object being to provide a pocket of the class described comprising overlapping wall members, both of which engage one part of a fastening device in coupling said members together to 20 close a pocket opening; a further object being to provide a pocket of the class described, at least one part of which is formed integral with one of the glove forming members and which may be formed from two of said mem- 25 bers by the use of anadditional Vpart or section and with these and other objects in view, the invention consists in av glove of the class and for the purpose specified, which is simple in construction, eficient Vin use, and
"7 30 which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed. Y
f The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification,` of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the "35 separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a plan view ofthe palm portion of a glove showing one form of my improved Fig. 1 but showopen position; and,
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but showing another modification.
In the several figures of the accompanying '50 drawing, 10 'represents' the main body portion of the glove from which the four fingers, palm and wrist portion of the glove are formed, and 11 the thumb forming portion. The thumb forming portion extends to the stitched side l0a of the glove to form a palm portion 11a.v It will be understood that the glove structure comprising the parts and 11 may be made in the usual or any desired manner, and may be of any preferred type of hand covering such as mittens, drivinkg gloves, dress gloves, work gloves and the li e.
In the structure shown in Figs. l to 3 in* clusive, the palm portion 1()b of the glove is cut out on the lines 12 from the base of the finger portion and a part of the thumb portion to a point adjacent the stitched side 10a as seen at 12"L to form thereof a flap 13 having one part 14 of a snap fastening device. In this construction, an insert piece 15 is arranged upon the thumbl part 11 and is stitched thereto on the line of stitching 15a and extends upwardly to the base of the finger portion of the glove and is stitched thereto as is also the palm portion 11a of the glove on the line of stitching 16. The free edge of the insert 15 forms a flap 17 which lies under the palm portion 10b or the flap 13 thereof as clearly seen in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, and this insert has an aperture or opening 18 which passes over a knob of the other part 19 of the snap fastener so that when the two parts 14 and 19 are brought together with the flaps 13 and 17 in the position shown in Fig. 1, the flap 17 is secured in position closing the pocket 20 formed within `and between the parts 10b, 15 and 11a.
The pocket is shown in its open position in Fig. 2, with the iiaps 13 and 17 folded backwardly, thus lproviding a large opening, permitting the placement of two or more lingers of the hand into the pocket 20 to facilitate the removal of articles therefrom. It will be understood that the lower end of the palm portion 11a is stitched to the glove 10 as indicated by the line of stitching 21, and thus the palm portion 112L becomes a-n integral structure with the body 10 of the glove proper in addition to the thumb portion 1l.
In the construction shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing, the palm portion l1a of the part 11 is stitched to the glove part l() in addition to the stitching at 10a by stitchings 22 arranged adjacent the base of the finger portion of the glove, and stitchings 23 at the wrist portion of the glove, the latter closing the lower end of the ocket 24 formed within and between the pa m portion l1a and the palm portion lb of the part 10. In this construction, the palm portiony b is free at its side edge 25, the stitching shown being merely for the purpose of forming a reinforced edging, and this free edge 25 is cut angularly on the line 26 toward the center of the palm portion of the glove to form of the palm portion l0", two fla s 27 and 28,. The flap 2 8 is shown tnrned ackwardly and is provided with one part 29 of a snap yfastener aday ted to engage the other part 30 secured to t e palmy portion 1l of the thumb part l1 of the glove. In this construction, an eXtension piece 27 is attached to the flap 27 andl lies under theflap 28 and is provided with an aperture 31 to` pass over the knob of the snap fastener 30 so as to secure, both flaps 27 and 28 in position when the part 29 of the snap fastener is brought into engagement with the part 30. This also closes the pocket 24 as will be apparent. The extension piece 27a of course constitutes part of the flap 27 and is also foldable backwardly to provide a large o ening controlling admission to the pocket 2, which in thisconstruction is arranged between the parts 10b and 11a.
In the construction shown in Fig. 5 of theV drawing, the palm portion 10'. of the glove has free side portions 32 and 33 and a free end portion 34 forming a substantially tongue-like member provided at its free end with the knob member 35 of a snap fastener.
In this construction, two insert pieces 36 and 37 are arranged between the palm portions 10" and 11 and are secured respectively to the edges 32-33 of the palm portion 10b and to the palm portion 1()a as seen at 38 and 39 respectively, thus forming the pocket 40. rIhe insert pieces 36 and 37 are preferably folded centrally to collapse the same and also to form a compartively large opening to the pocket 40, which in this construction is arranged between the parts IOL-1la and the insert pieces 36 and 37. I also provide the closure flap 42 which constitutes an eXtension of the wrist portion ofthe glove or the part l() thereofl This flap carries the other part 4l of the snap fastener which engages the part 35 in closing the pocket 40.
rIhe distinctive feature of the several forms of construction above described resides in providing a comparatively large opening giving access to the pocket of the glove, facilitating the easy placement of articles into said `olret and the removaly of articles. thererom. While these pockets are preferably arranged in the palm portion of the gloove and are opened in the direction disclosed, it will be understood that the same may be located on any part of thc gloove structure and may open in any desired direction to suit the particular type oi glove as well as the specific use of the pocket.
Various other changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l..
