This invention relates to a therapeutic appliance adapted particularly for the application of heat to the human head, along the lines of the bases of the teeth and gums. In carry- I provide a heating element comprising a resistance coil of small diameter, wound upon a core and enclosed in a covering of fireproof material, preferably asbestos, the element as a wholebeing very l0 flexible, and this element is enclosed in a flexible rubber tube which is considerably longer than the coil. Wires extend from the ends of the coil through the tube to a plug switch by which the coil can be connected to a suitable current source. A head-band is provided for justable along the holding the device in position, and this band is provided with means at one end for gripping the central part of the tube, and with a gripping device at the other end which is ad two end portions of the tube. Thus, the tube, with the enclosed heat ing element, is doubled upon itself, forming two stretches between the gripping devices, and these stretches being flexible and laterally separable, may be positioned along the lines of the bases of the upper and lower gums, in which positions they may be held by the headband. The stretches of the tube between the gripping or clamping devices are provided with tubular casings of fabric, preferably cotton, which can be readily removed, to be washed, by slipping them along the tube after the removal of the adjustable clamping device.

The heating device comprises a relatively long flexible resistance coil 1, of small diameter, wound upon an asbestos core 2, the core and coil being enclosed by an asbestos covering 3. This heating element is enclosed within a flexible rubber tube 4, which is considerably longer than the heating element. 'The tube and heating element therein are supported by a head-band 10, having at one grips the central part of the tube 4, and having at its opposite end a gripping device 12, which is adjustable along the end portions of the tube. As shown, these gripping devices are buckle-like in form and they are preferably made of insulating material. The device 11 has openings 13 and 14 and the tube 4 is threaded through these openings, its central part being gripped by the device 11. The gripping device 12 has similar openings 15 and 16, and the endportions 55 4 and 4" of the tube extend through these latter openings. The end portions 4 and 4 can be pulled or pushed through the openings in the device 12, to tighten or loosen the device when it is applied to a human head, as 7 shown in Fig. 1.'

In applying the device, the gripping device 12 is moved outwardly toward the ends of the'tube 4 and the band 10 is slipped over so the head, and the part of the device containing the heating element is then arranged opposite the bases of the upper and lower gums, as shown in Fig. 1. By then pulling outwardly on the end portions of the tube 4, the device may be tightened sufficiently to hold the parts containing the heating coil in the position shown. The plug switch 9 may then be connected to the current source, through a suitable socket, and current will flow through the resistance coil. It will be understood, of course, that suitable regulating devices will be provided in the circuit to limit the current flow and produce the desired heating effect in the coil. Preferably, the coil will be raised to such a temperature that the heat applied to the surface of the skin will be fever heat or higher. The application of the heat will stimulate the blood circulation.

A therapeutic device comprising a flexible tube having a flexible resistance coil therein and a head band having devices at its ends for connecting the tube to the band, said tube having two stretches, laterally separable from one another, extending between said devices and connected to the band thereby.

2. A therapeutic device comprising a flexible tube having a flexible resistance coil therein and a head band having devices at its ends for connecting the tube to the band, said tube having two stretches, laterally separable from one another, extending between said devices and connected to the band thereby, one of said devices being adjustable along the stretches.

3. A therapeutic device comprising a flexible tube having a flexible resistance coil '20 therein, a head band having devices at its ends for connecting the tube to the band, said tube having two stretches, laterally separable from one another, extending between said devices and connected to the band thereby, one

of said devices being adjustable along the stretches, and removable cloth coverings on said stretches.

4. A therapeutic device comprising a flexible tube, a resistance coil in the tube, a band,

means on one one of the band for gripping the central part of the tube, and gripping means at the other end of the band adjustable along the end portions of the, tube.

5. A therapeutic devicecomprising a flexible tube, a resistance coil in the tube, a band, means on one end of the band for gripping the central part of the tube, gripping means at the other end of the band adjustable along the end portions of the tube, and removable cloth coverings on the tube between the two gripping means.

6. A therapeutic device comprising a flexible tube having a flexible resistance coil therein, said tube and coil having sufiicient' length and flexibility to permit of their extension around the front and sides of the wearers jaw with light pressure throughout, and ahead band having means at its ends connecting the tube to the band.

7. A therapeutic device comprising a flexible tube having a flexible resistance coil therein, said tube and coil having suficient length and flexibility to permit of their extension around the front and sides of the wearers jaw with light pressure throughout, and a head band having devices at its ends for connecting the tube to the band, one of said devices being adjustable along the tube.
